Weekly Wrap Up - Nine Weeks and Counting

We've been under stay at home orders for 9 weeks now.  Our area has been pretty fortunate, we've only had 64 cases in our county, with 2 hospitalizations and 1 death.  Surrounding counties have had even less, some with zero cases.   The husband was long over due for a hair cut, so Friday night he got brave and let Lindsey cut it for him.

Tom's been working 6-7 days a week during the pandemic, so disregard the fatigue on his face. Lindsey did a really good job, especially for having never cut hair before.  We went to visit Tom's parents Saturday morning (first time since the shut down) for an early Mother's Day visit, and Lindsey ended up doing her grandfather's hair too.  We stopped at a small local bakery on the way and picked up some pastries for an early breakfast treat.

Olivia's new job is predominantly on the weekend, with some extra days thrown it here and there as needed.  We're working on a routine for that.  Of course if/when jiu-jitsu and church start back up we'll have to rework the routine.   Additionally, Olivia added a new mid day dog sitting gig this weekend through next week, which added an extra twist.

Sunday morning Olivia and I were out the door by 5:15am.  We were back home by 7am and she and I went back to bed while Lindsey and Tom watched tv.  I fixed bacon and Belgian waffles with Nutella, whipped cream and fresh strawberries for a late breakfast.  She and I headed back to the farm at 12:15, and then went to take care of the dogs afterwards.  We had a low key Mother's Day.  The girls gave me gifts, and we ordered take out for dinner.  We also finished binge watching Season 2 of the Masked Singer and started on Season 3.

Monday morning was supposed to be an early morning for Lindsey since Jayce was scheduled to be here at 6:30am.  By 7 they hadn't arrived, so I texted the mom to make sure they weren't in an accident or having car trouble.  Turns out she just decided to leave him home again (twice now) and forgot to let us know.  That's two strikes.   I started laundry, and then Bella arrived at 9am.  Olivia and I went to tend to the dogs mid day.  School doesn't take long these days.   Lindsey's new wardrobe came via FedEx and she helped Tom start the assembly process after dinner.   I had a graduation zoom meeting (still no closer to knowing what we're doing) and then Olivia had a youth group zoom meeting.   Dinner was cubed pork loin, mashed potatoes and turnips/greens.

Tuesday Bella arrived at 8am.  Things were relatively normal.  The girls finished school on time.  Olivia and I went to take care of the dogs mid day.  We're using these trips to practice her driving.  It's roughly 9 miles each way, so she's getting in daily driving at least.  Tom and Lindsey finished up the new wardrobe after he got home from work.  For dinner we had a chicken, alfredo pasta and greens.

Wednesday morning we were back to Bella coming at 9am so we got to sleep in a bit.   Olivia and worked most of the morning and afternoon on the back patio, uprooting weeds that are popping up between the bricks.  Mid afternoon we went to tend to the dogs.   Olivia and Tom went for a walk before dinner.  Dinner was chicken salads and pasta.

Thursday morning we were up early again awaiting Jayce.   His mom texted at 6:42 and said she'd decided to leave him home (no clue who she's leaving him with).  This was the third time in a row that this has happened, so I texted her back and told her to bring Lindsey's pay that she owes her from the last time he was here.  No response, so I'm thinking that's a lost day of pay, but I could be wrong.  We had about 3 hours to kill before Bella arrived, so I worked on laundry and house work while Lindsey did her school work and reorganized her bedroom.   I went grocery shopping, then picked up school food before heading out to tend to the dogs.  Dinner was spaghetti and meatballs with ciabatta bread.

Friday morning Olivia and I were up at 4:45am to get ready to head to the horse farm.  It was a wonderfully warm morning, with a light fog hanging over the pasture and horses.  I sat and watched the sunrise, listened to a wild turkey gobbling in the distance and watched the farm dogs play in the fog.   It was a lovely morning, well worth getting up for.    We were home before 7am.  Lindsey was already up drinking coffee and working on her school work.   Olivia went back to sleep and I worked on this blog post.   Bella will be arriving around 9am.   I plan to work in the gardens.  I'll be taking Olivia back to the farm at 12:45, then we'll head over to play with the dogs for an hour or so.  We don't really have anything planned for the evening.  We'll have Salisbury steaks, mashed potatoes and some form of a vegetable for dinner.

Parts of our state entered Phase 1 of reopening today.  There is much confusion as to what is  and isn't open and what you can and can't do still.  Our church has announced they'll continue to do only one service, but you'll have a choice between live stream, drive-in and radio church BUT you can also come in to the church for service starting this weekend.  You'll have to submit to a temperature check before entering, and then be given a few squirts of hand sanitizer at the next station.  Surreal.

I hope you all have a good weekend!

  1. Our parish only has 6 cases, which is crazy considering Louisiana is a hot spot! We live in the northeast corner, though, almost to the Arkansas line and less than an hour from Mississippi. Lindsey did a great job on your husband's hair! My boys are looking pretty shaggy, too, but I think we'll get haircuts in Texas next week. I'm sorry she may have lost a sitting job (and especially the pay!)!

  2. Lindsay did great on your husband's hair! We have given all 4 guys in this house a cut twice now and have had mixed results. I think some hair styles and hair textures are just easier than others.

    1. Lindsey said her dads hair was a lot easier to do than Grandpa's.

  3. Your haircuts went really well. We are no professionals, but it isn't as hard as I thought. We have 138 cases in our little city with four deaths. Our church is only doing live stream. We have a large elderly population in our congregation so I think that will be the case for a long time.

    1. We decided not to go, mostly because of the timing and trying to get Olivia to work on time.

  4. I love reading your family's routine with jobs at different times. I do remember how hard doing inhome daycare was, we did it for a time. Have a lovely week!

    1. I did in home child care when the kids were little to give us a little wiggle room in the budget. I'm glad this is Lindsey's deal though. Getting up early with her for kid drop off is far more tiring to me that getting up at 4:45am to take Olivia to the farm.
