Weekly Wrap Up - Worker Bees

The weekend was busy with getting Olivia to her jobs.  Saturday and Sunday's look like this 5:15am leave the house to arrive at the farm by 5:30.  She's typically finished around 7am, so we're home by about 7:15am.  She lays back down to nap for a bit.  Saturday morning is jiu-jitsu from 10-11:30am.  Then we leave to go back to the farm at 12:15 and are home by 2ish.  Sunday mornings when we get home, I shower and get ready for church, and she catches about an hour of sleep.  We all leave at 8:30am to head to church.  Lindsey and I leave after first service (9-10am) and Olivia stays for a youth leaders meeting, followed by youth service from 11-12.)  I pick her up at church and head to the farm and are usually home by 2pm.  From 3-6pm, on both Saturday and Sunday, Olivia works her 2nd farm job. We typically have dinner when she gets home.

Lindsey's babysitting service has picked up a great deal.  This week she was actually offered a 3 day a week nanny position, so we're trying to figure out what that will look like to fit the needs of the family, and to ensure her school work is still a priority.  This job is for a family with two children, and one on the way.  The dad has just signed up to go into the National Guard, and will be gone for roughly 3 months with his quarantine/basic training/other training.  The mom, who is a nurse (and very pregnant) will continue to work and Lindsey will fill in the gaps.

Monday was an extra work day for Olivia so we did the 5:30 and 12:30 shifts again.  In between there I took her to her 6 month dental check up.  This was her last appointment at the pediatric dentist, and we've already got her appointment scheduled with the adult dentist for July.  Lindsey stayed home and got her school work done while we were doing all of that.   We did get our Teaching Textbooks subscription up and running late Friday evening, so Lindsey attempted to do the first lesson today.  Unfortunately, while the program is up and running, the proofs portion of each lesson is NOT working (and according to tech support, has no timeline for completion).  Without that portion being in operation, you can't enter the proofs, which leaves the problem and the lesson as being "Incomplete".  We finally had to give up on it so she could go to her babysitting job at 2:30.

Tuesday morning we had a terribly heavy frost.  I warmed the car up for 15 minutes and still had ice on all the windows when I dropped Lindsey off at work at 7:30am.  She took all of her school work with her, except for the defunct math.  It was nice to come home to the wood stove and a cup of coffee, and just sit for a while and read. Olivia and I did some things around the house, and then I took her for a hair appointment at noon.  Lindsey didn't get home from her sitting job until 5:30, so we waited until after jiu-jitsu to eat dinner.

Wednesday was low key in the morning.  Lindsey got up early to get school work done before heading off to babysit for a few hours.  I picked her up at 12:30 to take her to a hair consultation for her appointment next week.  I love that the kids are paying for their own appointments now.  We received a thumb drive from Teaching Textbooks with the 2.0 version in the mail.  Since no instructions came with it (REALLY???) I spent quite a bit of time going through files trying to figure it out.  Finally after messaging, and waiting hours I got a quick "look for .exe file" response...then nothing, for hours.  I finally messaged back that I wanted a full refund, and just like that, a very apologetic real person called me within about 30 minutes.

Thursday morning Olivia headed off to farm #3, and she spent most of the day there.  Lindsey had a normal day at home, and got her school work completed early on.  I went grocery shopping and then home to do laundry.   I picked Olivia up from the farm at 1, and shortly thereafter had a tech guy from Teaching Textbooks call and walk me through getting things set up.  Only to find that something on the thumb drive didn't work, so we had to reconfigure via the internet.  By about 2pm,  Lindsey was able to do her first math lesson of 2021.  Lindsey got called on to go babysit for a couple of hours, and then it was time to get everyone out the door to jiu-jitsu...and another late dinner after class.

Friday is a regular school day.  Lindsey was able to do math without any hiccups, thank goodness!  We're headed out mid afternoon to celebrate a friend's birthday.  We hit the jump park and then had some amazingly good pizza and cake.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Wow, you sure stay busy! I'm so glad you got the math figured out. That can be so frustrating and time consuming! My sister used to nanny in Boston while she was going to school. She loved it, and the money was amazing.
