Last fall we purchased a bunch of gourds when we went to the pumpkin patch. The poor gourds have been sitting neglected in the great outdoors as they dried out. This week, they became Mother’s Day gifts!
On day one Thomas and the girls scrubbed and sanded the outside of the gourds and cut the holes. These photos were taken through my kitchen window…so the screen made them a bit blurry.
We kept the seeds and will plant our own this year.
On day two, the kids put a layer of primer on the gourds. Their favorite part of this whole thing was getting to war one of Thomas’ old shirts as a smock. (Such Daddy’s Girls!)
On day three, they added an oil based gloss paint to make the birdhouses shiny and bright. (I can’t believe they didn’t add a color!)
Then we hung them up on the garden shed to dry completely. Aren’t they lovely?
The various grandma’s each get a birdhouse and a homemade card. I get two birdhouses, because I’m the Mom, and I said so, that’s why!
