This time of year is so much fun. There are many activities outside the home, with family and so much to be done. With all the ruckus, we sometimes have to make a concerted effort to make way for Jesus in our celebrations.
One event we attend each year is a local live nativity. To some it’s not “involved” enough, but we love it. Upon arrival at the “Bethlehem” you and your party register for the “census” and are given a number. Then you sit and listen to lovely Christmas carols while you wait.
Once your number is called you are led outdoors to a costumed tour guide. You then begin a narrated, lantern led walk through the Christmas story, beginning with prophecies of the coming Messiah.
You then watch as the angel appears to Mary, and then Joseph.
You travel with the weary couple to Bethlehem, and find there is no room at the Inn.
You listen to the sheep baaing and the shepherds chatting, and then the Heavenly Host appears!
You find Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus in the stable.
You then travel on to see the Kings greeting the young child Jesus.
As you leave, you are met with Jesus the adult, the Resurrected, the Savior. The ultimate reason for the babe being born, and this season that we celebrate.
The tour ends back in the market place where you can taste period foods, and pet a few animals..and ponder on the Christ of Christmas.
That is the neatest thing ever!! How I wish we had that close. What a treasured memory and a meaningful activity!
