Olivia selected the book Heidi, by Johanna Spyri for her year end project for my Literature Circle class at co-op. She has really enjoyed working on this project, and she did a wonderful job.
Step #1: Collect supplies including a tri-fold display board, small cardboard box, random sticks from the neighborhood and dried pine needles.
Step #2: Create a thatch house top by hot gluing the pine needles to a piece of cardboard. Then hot glue the sticks to the outside of the box to make a “log cabin”, then affix a door.
Step #3: Draw in the mountains, use masking tape to tape off the mountains and paint the sky.
Step #4 Add the mountains. We started off with a basic green, and added a little black for the farther away mountains, used the original green for the bigger mountain and then added a little yellow and white to the basic green for the closest mountain.
Step #5: Add the title, author, summary, conflict and character sections.I thought it was totally cool that she put the title and author on clouds floating above the mountains.
Step #6: Put it all together, and TADA!
I’m excited to see how the rest of the class projects turn out. I’ll share those with you in a few weeks, as they aren’t due until May 9.
