Weekly Wrap Up–The One With the Dog Attack

We had grand plans of a family hike and nature walk this past weekend.  Our day was cut way short after Olivia and I ended up being attacked by a dog while walking.    I was able to fight the dog off with a walking stick I’d picked up, just a few minutes before the attack.   You can read all about it here.   And here is my trusty walking stick!

We were doing more car schooling this week as we made the last trek back to the medical center until surgery in mid December.

We wrapped up our fist unit in physics.   We also completed our unit study on the Industrial Revolution.   Both girl had math tests this week, and again I see that all of these interruptions to help everyone else has negatively impacted the progress we’re making academically.   The word NO will need to be added to my life a lot more.

The days and nights have been bitterly cold here.   My dog has been happy to sleep near the woodstove at night after a day of trailing squirrels and catching moles.  (Yes, he brought me one as a thank you for sleeping by the fire.)   A big pot of beef stew seemed in order for this week…and somehow didn’t last nearly as long as I’d hoped for.

Today was art with Van Gogh.  We worked with oil pastels and created our own version of “Starry Night”.

We are off school all of next week.   December will have an abbreviated schedule, only focusing on Math and Language Arts.  This will allow the girls to get plenty of down time as we work up to Nutcracker production December 13 and 14.  The schedule will also allow for lots of craft time this year.

Now it’s time for me to sit down with my favorite tea cup and enjoy a few minutes of down time myself.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

  1. Oh no!! So sorry to read about the dog attack!
I like those Starry NIght artworks. No is a very useful word. :)
It's been extremely cold here as well so I have been sipping tea regularly.
Have a great weekend and enjoy your Thanksgiving break.
