Have you ever met someone whose energy and smile were just outright contagious? Chris (below with his daughter) was one of those people. This past year he coached three different basketball teams in our Upwards program, and he was by far one of the most loved coaches. He was an amazing single father, a great coach and an awesome man of God. This week, at 37 he suddenly passed away, leaving everyone he knew shocked and saddened.
The last conversation I had with him was about his role as a full-custody, single dad of a little girl. Growing up, Chris didn’t have a father in his life, and had been hurt and angry. However, becoming a father made him see all the things that his own father had missed out on. Chris was able to heal and feel sympathy for all the things his own father missed out on, because “Being a dad is fun, and scary and new everyday, because I get to see it all through her eyes.”
Chris’ daughter was his world, and likewise, he was her world. Please pray for this sweet girl as she tries to learn to go on without him, adjusts to living somewhere else and struggles to understand why.
On a more happy note, Discovery Education Streaming Plus is still giving away free subscriptions to homeschoolers through August 31, 2015. You can read more about it here.

Life is so hard sometimes. Our prayers are with that sweet little girl.
