It's been a full year since we joined the YMCA. Tom had said early on that it would be fun to do a 5K once we got in better shape. I filed this information away in a dark corner of my brain, and for his Father's Day gift I signed us both up for a 80's Throwback 5K...held in July. Yeah, so the event was this past Saturday night at 9pm. It was still in the high 80's and the humidity was at 95% when we got there for check in. I was sweating just standing still. Everyone got glow sticks, glow glasses and flashing bracelets, there was 80's music and a laser show as well.
Tom finished in 36 minutes, and was so pleased with himself. He took 2nd place in his age bracket. First place went to the man who won the 5K in just over 22 minutes. This was the first race I've done since I ran the London Marathon in 1999. I finished in 56 minutes, and while it wasn't a great time, I was happy that I finished in under an hour, I wasn't in last place and my knee and ankle didn't give out...and I didn't have a heat stroke.
The rest of our week has been more laid back than recent weeks. We've hit the gym in the mornings, worked on algebra and housework in the afternoons and hit the last two regular season Valley League baseball games in the evenings.
The girls left Thursday to go spend a long weekend with my best friend and her husband. I had to laugh when my friend emailed me on Wednesday and said "I haven't had kids in the house since forever, do I need to buy milk, and what about snacks?" Her son is in his mid-30's, and she has no idea how much teen and preteen girls can eat in a few days.
Registration forms started coming in this week for the co-op we're trying to get going. The science equipment I'd ordered for the group also came this week, so we should be in good shape come September when we start up. I'm excited about teaching botany this year, I've never taught science in a group setting.
I'll be spending my day today scrap booking. I'll get all of my scrap booking caught up (I call it a scrap-frenzy), and be up to date before Lindsey's birthday gets here, I hope.
How has your week been?

DeleteGood for you! I am pretty sure I would have passed out. I hate the heat.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Dawn
There was one point where I thought about just stopping because it was so oppressively hot and humid. Glad I pushed through, but I didn't enjoy it at all!
