My brother hosts an annual "Great Pumpkin Party" at his house each October. This years festivities were held this past weekend. The weather man had us a bit worried, as they kept insisting there would be torrential rain all evening. Thankfully the rains held off until we were all homeward bound. The festivities include a bonfire, weenie roast, pumpkin carving, lots of orange/green/purple lighting (that doesn't photograph well) and this year he added an outdoor theatre and showed "The Great Pumpkin" after dark for all the kids. Here are a few photos of the festivities.
Monday was a typical school day, in the sense that we didn't have any interruptions. However, somehow Olivia managed to drag her day out from 9am until we left for basketball at 6pm, and she still wasn't finished. I have no idea what took her so long, and I asked her about it on the way to basketball and she had no answer either, she'd been steadily working all day. Basketball didn't end until 8:15pm, and by the time we drove home it was late so I told her to just tack the rest onto Tuesday. After everyone else was in bed, I noticed the house was getting colder...and I checked and the furnace was blowing cold air, sigh.
Tuesday morning I was up early (cold and cranky) and called the heating company and told the lady that whatever the numbskull did in early October (that had to be fixed 2 days later) had apparently messed something else up because I've got no heat. She never even questioned it and sent someone right over. The new technician was here for approximately 2 hours, made several trips to his work truck....said he couldn't find anything wrong, but miraculously the house was warm and toasty when he left, and he didn't charge me for the service call. All of which makes me think yes he did find something that the other guy messed up and he fixed it on the down-low and left, ahem. School went well, especially once we could all shed our heavy layers of clothing. Olivia had basketball practice in the evening while Lindsey stayed home with Dad to hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters.
Wednesday was just a typical school day Lindsey had a literature test on The Hobbit, Olivia had her first civics test and we wrapped up early afternoon and worked on reading The Yearling. Truthfully, I'll be glad when this book is done, it just seems to go.on.for.e.v.e.r. We had church in the evening.
Thursday I was up early to take a family member for an MRI. The girls stayed home and knocked out their school work while we were gone. By 5pm we were back at basketball.
Friday (today) we have co-op, followed by grocery shopping and another 2 hour basketball practice in the evening.
How was your week?
Linking up with the Weekly Wrap Up.
Every time I see your girls I can't believe how big they are getting. :) And yay for heat (and having it finally fixed...).

ReplyDeleteThanks for popping over!
DeleteI hope the heat remains working this time. That is frustrating. It sounds like a good week otherwise.
ReplyDeleteblessings, Dawn
Very frustrating, but so far so good!
DeleteHalloween isn't really a thing here but it brings back fond memories of our years in Canada.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me how much it's morphed. We only had the one day on October 31 growing up, now with all the events prior to and after, kids get about a 2 week deal out of it!
DeleteThe Great Pumpkin Party is such a fun theme! Glad you have working heat!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad too, especially since the temperatures are dropping into the teens this weekend!
