Monday started out with crazy heavy rain that woke us all up around 6:30am. We need rain, but not all at one time like that! The rains set in for most of the week, but the temperatures were a bit cooler so it's a win. Olivia has been dutifully plowing through her summer Algebra I/II strengthening course. I'm really thrilled with how it's going. She's doing really well, and has really improved on some areas where she was weak. Even she's happy with how it's going, even if the thought of doing math most of the summer isn't exactly celebration worthy.
Lindsey has been working on a for pay sewing project, and she spent a lot of time measuring, cutting and sewing this week. She's making guinea pig cage liners, consisting of two layers of cloth diaper sandwiched between two layers of fleece. (16"x39" each)
Tuesday Lindsey worked as a teacher at 4-H Cloverbud Camp all day. I dropped her off, and then Olivia and I went to tour the Equestrian Center of a local college she's interested in. We also got her veterinary assistant apprenticeship request letters ready and in the mail to try and secure a spot for the fall. Heavy rains continued all evening, so baseball was cancelled.
Wednesday I dropped Lindsey off to teach at 4-H Camp again. Olivia and I then went on a little road trip for her first college tour. One of the things she liked the most about this particular school, besides the campus and academic programs was....the Medieval Sword Fighting Club. I think she was all in when that was brought up. How is this even possible already?
The crazy rains continued throughout the afternoon and evening. Baseball was cancelled and we had some pretty substantial flooding in our area.
Thursday, Lindsey was back at the beloved museum working. She prefers working Tuesday and Thursday, but that looks like she's going to have to be more flexible with her days the next few weeks. She starts a babysitting job during the day next week. Olivia plowed through math and did some work in the gardens. Then she noticed a few off things with the dog, and she self diagnosed him with having an ear infection. A call, followed by a trip to the vet confirmed that she was right and now he's on the mend.
Friday Lindsey was back at the museum. Olivia and I ran some errands and then worked on getting our basement cleaned (the finished side). This tends to be the drop zone for things that don't have a home and for all the outgrown toys, so it was a purge day.
Around the web this week, I've shared a book review of No Longer Little: Parenting Tween with Grace and Hope, and I've shared about Haiti Day 4, Haiti - Day 5, and our Revised Curriculum Picks.
I hope you've all had a great week. This summer seems to be flying by, more so than most. Make the most of every minute!
How is it our kids are looking at colleges?????
ReplyDeleteRight?! What happened to finger paints and flashcards?
DeleteIt does seem like the older my kids get the faster the summer seems to go! How great that she was able to diagnose the dog.
ReplyDeleteYes! this growing up thing seemed so slow when we were the kids, but on this side of the growing, it goes by FAST!
