October is my favorite month. I love the changing leaves, pumpkin patches and the cooler temperatures. I'm not a fan of the freaky and spooky twist people put on it, but I love the season. It's also when all the fall festivals start up and I love going to those and looking at all the crafts and the foods you only get in the fall (fresh made apple butter, caramel apples etc.).
To start our October off we have had blue skies and sunshine all week. The nights are a little cool, sometimes nippy, but daytime temperatures are still in the 80's. That should start to change soon, I hope.
Monday was pretty typical here. Schoolwork went pretty quick. Olivia doubled up on a few things to give her more breathing room on Tuesday (volleyball match). I changed my garden flags from summer to fall, and put out my little scarecrow and added a couple of pumpkins. I got caught up on laundry and house work and we were all able to sit down to dinner together for a change.
Tuesday morning I had to take Olivia to the local high school to sign the registration papers for the PSAT next week. Sitting in the front office was very eye opening for the girls. We watched a mom come in and drop off a huge bottle of Tums for her daughter. She asked if she could just leave some for the daughter and take the bottle back with her. Oh no, you must leave the bottle, she has to take the medicine directly from it's original container when she takes it, but she can keep it with her all day if needed, but can't share it. Ok...whatever. The daughter came in about 10 minutes later to pick up her bottle....she's having really bad heartburn/morning sickness, she's probably 8 months along. Then the secretary announced to the resource office (on-site policeman) that a student was missing from a certain class...so he had to go try to locate that student. Then, an obviously sick student came in and before he even got to tell them what was going on he was told "stop faking and get back to class"....I felt bad for him. It was an interesting morning. We came home and worked on lessons and then headed out to Olivia's volleyball match, which they lost.
Wednesday was school as usual as we plowed through out normal lessons. Olivia had volleyball in the evening and then we rushed off to church. This is our biggest rush day because of the timing with practice ending and our having to get Olivia home, drop her off to warm up her dinner, while we rush back out the door to get to church.
Thursday was pretty standard as far as school work goes. We took a break at lunch time and went to our city library for their monthly lunch music concert. This month there was a violin player. They also give out free pizza, so the girls got a free lunch and a little music/culture thrown in...and a break from school for an hour. I took a quick walk through what is left of my flower gardens, and found that my aster's are lovely and abundant this years, they apparently didn't mind all the heavy rains.
Friday (today) Lindsey worked at the museum. Olivia will have her last home volleyball game of the season tonight. This was a quick (yet hectic) season.
In case you missed it this week, I shared a review of the book Forgive Your Way to Freedom. I HIGHLY recommend this book to all my readers.
Have a great weekend!
That does sound like an eye opening morning at the public school.
ReplyDeleteOn many levels!
DeleteWow, what an interesting morning at the high school. I love fall too. The temps are still pretty high here, but we woke up to fog this morning so fall is on it's way.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Dawn
It's supposed to cool down this coming weekend...or at least that's the last report I heard.
