Weekly Wrap Up - Cold and Christmasy

We had a cold front move in over the weekend, and the first of the week was equally cold.   Monday's highs were in the 30's but high winds picked up, causing the wind chill to dip to single digits.   We stayed bundled up in the sun porch and sipped hot tea while we worked on our lessons.   Our town Christmas parade was at 7pm, and it was wicked cold out there.  With 122 entries in the parade, it was a pretty long one too.   Lindsey's group from the museum were in spot #72, and I was really worried about them being out so long with only their work clothes/costumes on.   Apparently those wool petticoats, gloves and stockings do a much better job of keeping you warm than my modern coat and gloves.
Tuesday was equally as cold.   We worked on our schoolwork and stayed indoors most of the day.  It wasn't a stellar math day.    I just can't for the life of me understand why math lessons go smoothly with few errors but when the dreaded "test" comes out the brains lock up.    I was frustrated to say the least.   We  ventured out late afternoon to take the girls to practice the Mummer's Play for the upcoming lantern tours at the museum.  I rand a couple of quick errands, then went back to the museum parking lot and watched a beautiful sunset unfold....too bad my phone doesn't have a camera.

Wednesday the girls hit the books, and I headed out for my monthly lunch with my friend Yvette.  We went with El Salvadorian food this time and it was delish.   My mother-in-law had a minor outpatient surgery that went smoothly, until her heart went into Afib in recovery and she had to be admitted.  The afternoon/evening were spent trying to get more information and make necessary arrangements.

Thursday was pretty low key with lessons moving along pretty well.  Lindsey hit a snag in Algebra 1 and Olivia was able to explain it to her in a different way that the curriculum (and me) did, so she was back on track.   The mother-in-law was released from the hospital mid-day and then by late afternoon we were back at the museum for Mummer's Play practice.

Friday (today) is a typical Friday for us.  Lindsey's working at the museum, Olivia will finish up her academic week and then we'll head out for driving lessons.   The evening gets a bit more hectic as we add another volleyball league from 7-9pm.  This week and next will just be skill assessment and team placement.   The season will start in January.

I hope you all had a great week!

    1. It was crazy, with 10 minutes we went from "everything went great" to "Houston we have a problem".

  2. Glad your Mother-in-law is doing better! We had a cold snap here too, but it was the wind that was the real problem - so much that the parade in town was cancelled! Thanks for sharing your week with us!
