Weekly Wrap Up - New Car Week

After last weeks news that the husbands car was beyond repair, we spent a great part of the weekend test driving new (to us) vehicles.  We narrowed it down to two, either a 2014 Ford Edge Titanium (top photo), or a 2014 Jeep Compass Latitude (2nd photo).   Both were comparable in price, but the Ford had 30,000 more miles...and so.many.dang.gadgets.  The driver's area just seemed so darned cluttered and overwhelming with gadgetry.   The Jeep has a sunroof, and is 4X4, less gadgety, had much less miles and was over $2000 cheaper.  We went with the Jeep (it looks black in the photo but is actually a deep blue/purple).

The old car somehow died when I parked it last week.  Try as we may, the husband and I couldn't get it started.  My car crafty brother came by Monday and tinkered with it and was able to get it started.  Once it was running, and the hood was still up we noticed that the motor was actually rotating front to back in the engine compartment...we were both stunned by that development.   He wasn't willing to let me drive it at that point (big brothers rock), so he drove it to the dealer and they actually gave us a little money as a trade in.   It's doomed for the junkyard, but it served us well for 13 years.

It's been really cold here all week, and then the polar vortex moved in on Wednesday bringing single digits and high winds that left us with negative numbers.   Olivia hasn't worked at the horse farm this week because of appointments for the owners, and the bitter cold too.   She's really missing being there, but I'm glad to have her home.   She got to spend a little more time on her artwork this week.  Here's one of her projects.

School has gone really well this week.  The girls are starting to finish up a couple of classes, which means they have more time to work on the others.   Spanish will be the longest running course, and Lindsey's algebra; everything else will be done by April.   I'm starting to lay out plans for the upcoming year.

  2. Your new car looks great. We are getting close to replacing the hubs car. It is 19 years old and on it's last legs.
    Blessings, Dawn

    1. We were hoping to make it another year or two so I could have more saved up, but sometimes plans don't work out. We're really happy with it.
