Weekly Wrap Up – Mad Dash to Vacation

Weekly_Wrap-Up

Isn’t it crazy how both the week before and after a vacation wear you out more than the rest of the year put together?  I mean seriously, can’t we just skip vacation so we moms can get some rest?  But, I digress, somewhat.

Lindsey turned 5 on Saturday.   The highlight of her entire day was getting her own library card!  I admit, I secretly gloated when she signed her name in cursive on her card and the librarian started gasping for air as if she’d inhaled a paper clip.

100_3932So on Tuesday, we headed to the pediatrician to get the 5 year checkup out of the way.  The doctor pointed out that her height and weight are proportioned very evenly….they just happen to be on the small side of the growth chart.  She’s 3 inches shorter than Olivia was at 5; and 13.5 pounds lighter!   The day went downhill when the vaccinations came into play.  Four shots, in one leg…not a happy camper to say the least.

The last baseball game of the fall season was held on Wednesday night.   Olivia’s team won 8 to 3.  I’m glad to have one more thing to  scratch off the things to do list each week (although Awana starts next week).

Thursday morning we went on a field trip to Elk Run Stables.  The future VET was in heaven!  Here are some sneak peaks, but you can read all about it here.

Ballet began on Friday.  Both girls have their classes on the same day this year.  The good news is that it frees up one night per week for me.  The bad news is that on Fridays, I’m as the ballet studio from 4:45 – 6:15 every week.

We finished up our study of the solar system with a few fun experiments.  We were able to combine science and geography as well, because we studied Alan Shepard and Christa McAuliffe, in connection with the state of New Hampshire.

Books we used were:

Science Alive! Earth and the Solar System; by Crabtree Publishing
Experiments with the Sun and Moon; by Salvatore Tocci
Alan Shepard The First American in Space; by Tamra B. Orr
Christa McAuliffe Teacher in Space; by Corinne J. Naden and Rose Blue
New Hampshire; by Deborah Kent
New Hampshire; by Dottie Brown

In our New Hampshire studies, we completed our state coin coloring sheet, state flag and our 2 page layout in our United States Coloring Book.  We also skipped making our New Hampshire meal (Roasted Corn Chowder).

We leave for the beach on Sunday, so I’ve spent a great deal of time trying to organize, pack and the general craziness that is necessary to get a family out the door for a few days.  I need a vacation from vacation preparation!

  1. I have a petite one at home, too. I don't know about yours, but mine is small in stature -- big in spirit! Have a lovely and restful vacation.
