Each year at Christmas, the girls and I go into goodie making mode. For days we make sweets, lots of sweets. The kids don’t even realize they are working on math and homemaking skills, they just know they are having fun and making memories.
This year we’ve made fudge, peanut butter balls, potato candy, peanut butter kiss cookies, gingerbread men, sugar cookies, chocolate chunk cookies, M&M cookies, white chocolate macadamia cookies…..and a partridge in a pear tree.
The girls love baking and helping in the kitchen. They have been known to argue over who GETS to do the dishes. I’m hoping that enthusiasm carries on into the teen years.
Once all of these treats are made we box them up and go “Elf” people. Neighbors, the mailman, friends, the mechanic and an occasional random stranger receive packages of treats delivered by the girls. The husband is usually the driver and I’m the one keeping an eye open for someone who looks like they need a smile, and a cookie.
What baking traditions does your family have?
