The Classical Historian offers a wide variety of history products ranging from games to complete curriculum. We were privileged to receive a free copy of the Medieval Memory Game to review (retail price of $14.95). I really wish we’d had this game back when we were studying knights and castles!
The game can be played in one of two ways. Younger children enjoy playing the standard memory game where you have all the cards on the table and try to match sets. Lindsey and Olivia are both amazing at this game. You can also lay out the category tiles (Europe, the America’s, Far East and Arabia) and race to see who can get the correct tiles, under the proper heading in the fastest time. Thomas and I were NOT so amazing at this one….so we’ll have to practice, a lot.
This was a great addition to our game stash for family game night. It also sparked discussion about the places and events on the cards. Lindsey was happy to share her knowledge of Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo with Mona Lisa and the Sistine Chapel cards were shown.
The heavy chipboard cards are perfect for little hands to grab, without bending. The places (Sistine Chapel, Cathedral at Notre Dame for example) have color photos of the actual place. Most of the cards with drawings are colorful, however some are black and white (the Bubonic Plague for example).
Since we’ll be focusing on American history this year, I can see us purchasing the American History Flashcards ($9.95) and the American History Memory Game ($14.95). I love adding fun, educational games to our learning experience!
The Classical Historian also offers on-line classes, and a free monthly lesson on their website.
