The girls have spent their mornings at camp this week. I’m working on a post about it, but it probably won’t be up until next week or later. They’ve had a blast though, and have learned SO much! Aren’t they the cutest little Revolutionary War soldiers ever?
Wednesday of this week I had my first board meeting for the local homeschool support group. I signed on as secretary for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year. While I knew this would entail paperwork (which I love), working with the website (no biggie) and note taking for board meetings (piece of cake) there was one pretty important thing that was left off the job description. Graduation.
I’m heading up the graduation committee for the rising seniors, and truthfully I’m not at all happy about it. It doesn’t technically go with the secretary position, but a board member has to over see it, one who doesn’t have a rising senior….so the one person on the board with elementary age kids is in charge of graduation. Grumblefish.
The girls are plowing through their “summer school” work. Last week was nothing short of disastrous, this week has been MUCH better as they’ve gotten a feel for how the lessons are worded. It never ceases to amaze me how saying the exact thing, with the slightest variation to wording, can just fuzz up some people. No names will be mentioned…but we know who they are.
There’s been lots of reading going on for the library’s summer reading program. It’s amazing what a few prizes will do for a kids desire to read. So far they’ve both earned tickets to the county fair, free ice cream cones from the local ice cream stand, free pizza from Dominoes, and passes to the local bounce house. Not too shabby for only being in week #2!
We’ve also worked on some art projects this week. More about the artwork will be shared in upcoming posts, but here’s a sneak peek.
This will be my last weekend home before Ethiopia! It’s hard to believe I’ll be heading out next Saturday. Lots of little loose ends to finish up this coming week.

WOW I like how much your library rewards the kids. Those are some great ideas just for doing incentives during the year.
