Our neighbor, Ms. Kay, is a native of Luxembourg, where St. Nicholas Day (December 6) is a big day of celebration. Each year the girls and I do something special for Ms. Kay on St. Nicholas Day. She turns into a giddy little girl every year when she finds her treat from us.
This year I decided to make a miter gift cup and fill it with little treats. I printed the pattern (see link) on heavy cardstock and then colored it with marker. I used our hand hot glue gun to assemble our little cup. I think it’s lovely.
We also found this cute little tin ornament filled with Hershey’s kisses, so we tucked that inside, along with a tangerine and a few chocolate gold coins.
The entire project took less than an hour. The trinkets were only a few cents. Hearing squeals of delight from a dear sweet elderly lady is simply priceless. Look for little, thoughtful ways to reach out to people all year long. This is how they know we are Christians, by our love for one another. (John 13:35)
"They'll Know we are Christian's by our Love" is my daughter's favorite hymn. I frequently hear her humming it while she is doing her schoolwork.
