Weekly Wrap Up–The Corps of Discovery Week

Since this is the first week of the month, that meant no co-op this week!  A full 5 days of productive homeschooling, woohoo!   We had a monsoon like rain on Monday, followed by an ice storm on Tuesday night.   Other than that, it’s been an uneventful weather week for a change.

History:  In our current unit study, we are working our way through the time period from just after the American Revolution to just prior to the Civil War.   No unit study of this time period would be complete without Lewis & Clark, so we’ve spent the last two weeks studying their amazing journey.

We’ve been working on a lapbook along the way.  We finished all of our mini books and got it assembled this week.

I wanted to put their lapbooks into the history notebook we’ve been building this year.  Instead of going with the “traditional” lapbook folding, I opted to glue two file folders back to back, but between the edges I glued a 2 inch wide piece of heavy cardstock that had been hole punched.   This allowed the lapbook to fit neatly into our notebooks.  The photos are looking at the back cover of the lapbook, so you see the black cardstock strip to the right in the photos.

We also made moccasins to see how long it would take to make a single pair, since a pair only lasted 2-3 days during the journey across the Rocky Mountains.   You can see the entire tutorial here.

Math:  Olivia finished up another math unit this week.  Fractions are going so much more smoothly than decimals, thank goodness.  Although, I’m beginning to think Olivia has test anxiety because she just goes blank on tests these days.   Lindsey is almost finished with here unit on 1000’s and rounding.

Language Arts:   We are almost finished with our Word Roots and Reading Detective books.   Once those wrap up we’ll circle back around to review our Jr. Analytical Grammar.

Activities:  Basketball, cheer, ballet, piano and Awana are still in full swing.  Although, this is the first week since Christmas break that Awana hasn’t been cancelled because of bad weather.   Olivia finished her 3rd TNT book this week and Lindsey will finish her first book next week.

    1. This was DEFINITELY one of my best hands on activities ever! They turned out incredibly well, and considering that I'm "sewing challenge" it was a miracle!

  2. Congrats on finishing your books, ladies! We are so behind in ours due to health and weather. Hoping for a good spring so we can finish ours up! Love the moccasins!
