Weekly Wrap Up–Snow, Snow and…Snow

Winter has finally arrived in our neck of the woods.   Granted the below zero temperatures have been here a while, but we’ve finally gotten snow.  A LOT of snow, often, as in three times in a week.   It truly is lovely though, don’t you think?

With all of that snow has come lots of extra curricular cancellations. We’ve had some lovely long evenings at home this week, and to be honest, I’ve enjoyed it.

We’ve started studying World War II, and thanks to the weather cancellations we’ve been able to spend the evenings reading aloud from The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom.   I can’t fathom the amount of love and forgiveness the Ten Boom’s walked in during their time in the concentration camps and beyond.

I think I’ve mentioned before that Olivia has a love for history, and a knack for art.   She’s been reading a book about the Great Depression, and I asked her to do a”book response” for me, as opposed to a boring old book report.   She turned in this charcoal drawing of a “Shanty Town” based on the description given in the book.

Shanty Town

Today we had our 6 month dentist checkups for the girls (they were also rescheduled from the storm several weeks ago.  Both girls were cavity free, and it looks like we’ll be hitting the orthodontist with child #2 shortly after child #1 is out of braces.

The dentist office isn’t in our town, so we turn it into a bulk food shopping day when we go.   The greatest part of our trip is I went to a thrift store and found next year’s science and geography curriculums for $2.25 each!!  I just may have done my happy dance right there in the store.

Olivia will be attending her first all day training session for the John Lewis Society this weekend.   She’s so excited, and just can’t wait to be working at the museum as a costumed interpreter.

How has your week been?
