Weekly Wrap Up - St. Nicholas and Blue Hair

The girls had their first basketball game over the weekend.   They lost, but only by 6 so that wasn't so bad.  Lindsey is so much shorter than everyone in this league, but she's hanging in there.   Olivia has never played basketball so she's trying to get her skills and speed up to par.   I didn't get to take photos, because I was working the scoreboard/book and needed to concentrate.   I'll do better next time.   This weekend is our "bye" week, so they don't have a game.

Olivia performed in her first Mummer's Play this weekend at the museum.   She'll be spending a lot of time there over the next weeks, getting ready for the 10 stretch of nightly tours.    Once we picked her up from the museum, we headed off to ring the bell for the Salvation Army for a few hours.   Santa (my brother Nelson) always goes with us on this endeavor.
Also over the weekend, I tackled a new little project for Olivia.  She's been wanting blue hair (yes really), so we had some down time on Sunday evening and we went for it.   The product we used is supposed to be permanent and the color on the box was a lot deeper blue than what she came out with; next time we'll leave it on longer than 30 minutes.  The only bad thing is that we've already noticed that the color bleeds when she sweats or gets her hair wet...not happy with that.   Otherwise, she's really liking it.

Tuesday was St. Nicholas Day and we made cookies (ahead of time) to surprise our neighbor with.   I searched high and low for a "traditional European St. Nicholas Day cookie recipe".   I was hoping the one I came up with was right.   I sent Lindsey over very early to deposit a package on Ms. Kay's doorstep, and then we left for the gym.    She called as soon as we got home and said that the box "smelled like home" (she's native to Luxembourg), and that the cookies were just like the ones she remembers as a child.   SCORE!!
In geography, Olivia has been studying volcanoes, so for grins and giggles I decided to add the favorite "mentos and diet coke" volcano for fun.    I caught the initial reaction on film, but should have waited just a split second to get the full effect captured.
I've spent time this week making out our shopping list for holiday baking.  I'm hoping to get to the store and buy all of that, and hopefully do a bit of actual Christmas shopping this weekend.  The goal will be to get the tree up sometime over the weekend as well.
