Weekly Wrap Up - The Less Hectic One

October in Virginia has been a bit schizophrenic where the weather is concerned.  Things seem to change on a daily basis, we're currently having temperatures in the low 30's at night and only 60's during the day.  At this point I refuse to turn on the heat or AC, just because I don't know which one we'll need as the day goes on.

As you can see by Olivia's ensemble, she's not sure how to dress either at this point.   Those Goofy slippers just crack me up when she's walking around the house, his little ears flop up and down.  It just makes me giggle.
Saturday my husband ran his second 5K.   He was really excited, and managed to shave 2 minutes off his run time from the first race.  He was very happy with those results.      We had our last regular season volleyball game, and finished the year undefeated.

Sunday was a busy day of church and the 1st Christmas play practice of the year.   Olivia, who is my more reserved child, wanted a speaking role, and is Elizabeth.  Lindsey, my outgoing child, didn't want to be in the play, but wants to help with props, lighting and crowd control with the little kids.  That whole flip flop has me puzzled.

Monday was a lovely, low key day.   The girls worked on their lessons, I did laundry and cleaned house and then we sat down with tea and our current read aloud "The Yearling".  The girls are really struggling with the dialect, which I find really funny considering we live in an area that tends to have similar speech patterns.  I guess this is why I hear Lindsey saying "Pardon me?" so much when random people talk to her.    Our only out of the house activity was Lindsey's 4-H sewing class in the evening, where she made a lovely (in its crooked, lopsided way) potholder.

Tuesday was another low key day.  Academics went smoothly and we were done by early afternoon, and managed to knock out several chapter in our read aloud.  Volleyball practice at 7pm was our only trip out of the house.   This is the last week of volleyball and everyone seems to have reached that point where it's time to be done.

Wednesday we headed out early for the girls 6 month dental appointments.  Both girls had a good checkup, no cavities.   Lindsey got the news that she needs to see the orthodontist about braces.   The dentist, news of braces and a female first all combined to make Tuesday "the worst day EVER".   We got a late start on schoolwork, but still finished up before the husband got home from work at 3:45.   I read a chapter of "The Yearling" while dinner cooked.  We have church on Wednesday evenings, this was my last week to teach there until December.  One more thing off my plate for a bit.

Thursday is our last day of the school week.   Lindsey somehow ended up with a test in math, spelling, grammar and literature so her day went much quicker than usual.   Olivia continues to work on her short story for her literature class and we squeezed in a little more reading on "The Yearling".   Our last volleyball practice of the season was tonight (insert hallelujah chorus here).    I'm hoping our undefeated streak holds throughout the tournament.

Friday (today) is our co-op class.   Students will be having their first poetry and tea time during literature class.   I was floored to find out that several of the kids have never had hot tea.  Maybe we're the only afternoon tea folks, but I thought surely everyone has had hot tea at some point in their lives.   Anywho...photos should follow next week.   After co-op we'll hit the grocery store and then we're heading out to a local high school football game tonight.

  1. Those slippers are darling! Sounds like you all had a nice relaxing week. I was thankful we had friends cancel our plans today since it's the only day we've been home! I needed the rest. I had planned to clean the house... but that isn't looking so good... I'm now thinking of reading a book and sitting on the couch with the computer for the rest of the afternoon. That sounds more relaxing.

  2. Love the slippers. I think low key, less-hectic weeks are my favourite - but then I am an introvert.

    1. I believe I'm more on an introvert than I realized, or at least the older I get the more I feel the need to be home and quiet.

  3. the weather has been unpredictable here too - not sure whether it's really fall or if there's still a bit of summer hanging on. Congrats to your husband on his 5K finish, and to the undefeated volleyball team!

  4. Love the slippers. We are having a strange fall here. The leaves have barely changed and many mornings feel like spring instead of fall.
    Blessings, Dawn

  5. So sorry to read about the worst day ever, but I'm also glad that she knows nothing worse. :) That's what I tell myself when my kids think their lives are the worst of any kids in the world.

    Congrats on the volleyball record!!!

Wishing the girls success with the Christmas play . . .

  6. Christmas play practice already? This season sneaks up on me every year. We are pretty big tea drinkers- my 9 year old drinks tea more than I do, haha! So, yeah, that would be a shock for me too!

    1. Our play is December 10 before everyone gets busy with family holiday celebrations, so we only have 6 weeks to go...but it still sounded early to me too!
