Weekly Wrap Up - Spring Break

Ok, so the title is a bit of a misnomer.  We didn't really take a "break" this week.   All the pubic schools in our area are on break, co-op is on break this Friday and my husband is off work on Friday.   Technically we have one day off this week, but that's a break for us.  I also forgot to take photos this week, so here's a photo of one of the flower arrangements I received when Momma passed away.
Monday was a fast moving day.   The kids worked on lessons and I managed to get a lot of small tasks caught up (you know the kind you just keep putting off).  Before I knew it we were getting dinner on the table.   In the evening we started reading Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.  Neither girl had realized how humorous he could be.   We found ourselves reading a lot longer than we'd planned, and Lindsey acted out several of the scenes as we went.   I've already ordered the DVD from the library for the weekend.

Tuesday was another low key, churn out the school work kind of day.   In the evening we went to archery.   I told Lindsey she could try shooting, but to pull from the shoulder not the wrist and see how it went.   They had to take a lot of her weight off her bow, but she was able to shoot for 6 rounds (total of 30 arrows) before her arm started to bother her.   She sat out the last couple of rounds as she was starting to have more discomfort.

Wednesday when we got up I noticed there was a definite lump in the top of the forearm that hadn't been there before.  I finally gave in and called to schedule an x-ray.   Now, lest you think I'm a horrible mother, there are a few extenuating circumstances, the biggest being health insurance.   We DO have insurance and good insurance through Anthem.   Unfortunately our local hospital and all of its associated doctors have broken ties with Anthem and will not accept it, which means everyone in our area is up the creek without a paddle when they need medical attention.   Yeah....so I called around and found a doctor who would see her and take our insurance and scheduled an appointment or Thursday morning.

Thursday morning we were up early, knocked out a spelling and algebra test and then headed off to the doctor.   After the initial exam, the doctor thought she had a buckle fracture.  After the x-ray, we saw that there is no buckle fracture....but there is a break in the elbow where a piece of bone has sheered totally off.  So, because of the insurance issue we were referred to another hospital about 90 minutes away.  We have an MRI on Monday (4/2) at that hospital, then we drive back again on Tuesday (4/3) to see the pediatric orthopedic surgeon to see what we need to have done.   Once all that was done we came back home and finished school work before going grocery shopping.

Friday (today), since it's Good Friday my husband is on vacation and we have no co-op either.   We're planning on going out to a afternoon movie and lunch or dinner out.  We were going bowling, but with Lindsey's arm that's out.   We don't have a lot scheduled for the weekend, mostly yard work/gardening and being home for a change!!

How was your week?

  1. We had a similar issue with insurance and our hospital last year. After the hospital lost lots of business for 8 months, they gave up and started taking our insurance again. I hope everything works out.

  4. Our spring break was not much of a break either! Twelfth Night is my favorite Shakespeare comedy - glad you are enjoying it. Glad you found the problem with her arm and praying that it heals up well. What a shame that the insurance issues have made it so difficult to get care! Same thing happens here!

  5. My teens and I also love laughing with Shakespeare! We just rewatched Much Ado About Nothing last night. :)

Your poor girl! I sure hope you have a positive end result after so much pain and hassle.
