Weekly Wrap Up - Goodbye September

Our weekend was pretty full.  On Saturday morning we had a double booking.  Lindsey had volleyball at 10, and I was coaching, and Olivia needed to be at an archery contest at the same time.  I dropped Olivia off early to warm up for an archery contest.  She was hoping to win a new, $400 compound bow from Parker Bows.   When we signed her up, the guidelines were you had to use the bows provided to compete.   At some point that was changed and all the men competing against her brought high dollar bows with stabilizer's and range finders.  We were truly disappointed to see that the deck was stacked against her so blatantly, but she went out and did what she does and did it well.   The man running the event told her that there was no way the bow she was provided with could even make it to the targets, but especially without her having all the other equipment.    He was a bit surprised to see her hit the two farthest targets dead on.
Needless to say, she didn't win.  The guy running the tournament told her she is really talented and with the right equipment she'd be a great competitor.   I had to smile when she responded "Well, I thought that was the whole point of coming today, to win the right equipment. Not for people with high dollar equipment to come show off."

We walked around a bit and looked at the other things that were going on.  We then found the same guy working another bow shooting event (not competition).   Both girls stepped up to shoot this time, and you can see from the look on his face in the  background that he was caught off guard by their skill.   Their groupings were amazingly tight.  He told me later that he'd love to go hunting with the girls because they'd be taking down animals faster than he could clean them.
Both girls are also really good shots with a rifle.  We went too that site and again both girls caught everyone by surprise.   Lindsey is just a tad better shot that Olivia.   She was shooting saltine crackers off the target board.   They both dropped every target, every time.
There were some interesting animal mounts in the trophy hall as well.  Here are a few of our   favorites.  The first one was labeled as an albino red-tailed hawk.   We were surprised that the eyes weren't pink as is the case with most albino.

In the evening we headed to my sister-in-law's house for "Mexican night".   She had little sombrero's for everyone to wear and we had lots and lots of Mexican food.  It was a fun evening!

We've had heavy rains again all week, and the gray/dreariness is starting to get wearisome.   Lindsey was in a funk early in the week, and she finally said "I just need some sunshine in my life."   Me too, little girl!

Sunday was regular church (both morning services) and then a youth event that ran until 2pm.  We watched movies and napped most of the afternoon.

Monday was a regular school and laundry day with nowhere to be until time to drop Olivia off for volleyball at 3:45.   We had heavy rains again.

Tuesday was normal up until 4pm.   I worked concessions and the admission table at Olivia's new school during the middle school volleyball games.  At 5:30 the varsity game started, and it was against the #1 team in the division.  In varsity volleyball you have to win 3 out of 5 sets to take the match.   We dropped the first game by 2, then won the 2nd game.   I then had to leave to run Lindsey across town to her volleyball practice and team photos at 7pm.   I dropped her off and went back to watch the rest of the varsity match.  We dropped the 3rd game and took the 4th.   The last game was the deciding factor and our girls won by a 12 point margin!   This was THE best volleyball match I've seen in a long time.   Olivia had several Ace's and a couple of great kills.   As soon as the match was over (7:45) I had to run back across town to pick Lindsey up at 8:15.  We finally had dinner around 8:45.  I was SO happy I put soup in the crock pot early in the day.

Wednesday was again pretty normal.  We had heavy rains and ended up with a river running through our back yard (and we don't live near water).   It was just coming so hard and fast, and the ground is already so saturated there was just nowhere for all the water to go.   Olivia had volleyball practice at 3:45 and team photos afterward.  We picked her up at 6:30 (practice ran late) and had to hurry across town to get to church by 7.

Thursday, you guessed it...more rain.  Lindsey was able to finish up her schoolwork before lunch.  Olivia took a little longer because it was art day and she REALLY spends a lot of time working on that.  Olivia had volleyball practice from 3:45 - 6, then at 6:30 she had a 2 hour babysitting job.  Lindsey had volleyball from 6:45 -8:15.   I fixed dinner before we left for Lindsey's volleyball, and I just packed Olivia's dinner up and she ate it in the car while her dad drove her to her babysitting job.

Friday...rain..sigh.   Lindsey worked at the museum all day.  There's not as many visitors when it's raining so they had a slow going day.  Olivia knocked out all of her work and then was able to have some downtime.   I had a dentist appointment at 1, then ran Olivia over to volleyball at 3:45.

I'm really looking forward to next year, when both girls are playing at the same school and on the same team...

How was your week?

  1. I am feeling the same way with the dreary weather. We have quite a few docks on the lake that are now completely underwater!

  2. Sorry you all are having so much rain. Great job on the archery front. That really wasn't fair to change the rules.
    Blessings, Dawn

  3. This sounds like our family with two events going on at the same time. We only have one vehicle at this time to make it even more interesting!
