Weekly Wrap Up - A Slower Pace

Over the weekend, Olivia's volleyball team was defeated in the regional tournament, which also cost them their spot in the state competition.   Lindsey's team had a horrible season and their tournament was equally as dismal.  The good news is, this means our evening are now free, which frees up out schedule during the day as well.

Sunday night into Monday early morning Olivia had a pretty nasty stomach thing going on.   She slept until 11:30am on Monday and was still having some issues later in the day.  By evening she was back to normal.   She still completed all of her school work and even took a practice SAT and scored 100% correct.   Lindsey knocked out her schoolwork pretty early and went outside to practice her volleyball skills.  She took my brother's old camcorder out to video her hand positions in setting.  When she came in to watch the video she found coverage of Olivia's first birthday party on the tape.  Momma, Ellen and my husband's grandmother, Sylvia, were all there smiling, chatting.  It was surreal to hear Momma's voice.   The evening consisted of taking dinner to a family going through cancer, and a leisurely family meal at home afterward.

Tuesday morning we were out the door early to go to a corn maze field trip with our local homeschool support group.   They divided the group up by age and the older kids got to build mini catapults and compete in teams launching their items for distance.   There was also a gaga ball pit, 9 square and a few bouncy items.  I got lots of photos, none of the kids in the actual corn maze...duh.

After the field trip we went to lunch with our friends, then headed by the library.  Even though we didn't get home until after 2pm, we were still able to complete a full day of lessons since we had nowhere to be in the evening.   I'm loving this schedule!!

Wednesday morning we had to take Shalom back to the vet for his ears.   This last session of the rainy season got his ears infected again.   Olivia gets the task of putting medicated ointment in his ears every 12 hours and then she gets to start doing the maintenance rinsing of the ears once the ointment is over (14 days of ointment).  Great training for my budding vet-tech.   After the trip to the vet we knocked out our regular lessons.   The evening consisted of dinner and church, and no rushing from one to the other.

Thursday was a pretty typical day.   The girls did schoolwork, I worked on laundry and house cleaning.  I put a big pot of vegetable beef soup on in the morning.    My in-laws stopped by around 3:30 and my father-in-law spent a little over 2 hours fixing the roof where we were having leaking issues.  He said it should withstand the next hurricane, and considering we have a nor-easter moving in tomorrow I was thrilled to have it fixed.   They stayed for dinner and we enjoyed vegetable soup and homemade peach cobbler.

Friday morning I dropped Lindsey off at work and then headed to the grocery store.  Olivia stayed home and finished her 9 week history exam and her geometry.   The afternoon was shopping and dropping off meals to another family dealing with cancer.   Once I picked Lindsey up from work we all chilled out at home with dinner and family movie night.

I hope you've had a great week too!

  1. Looks like a fun day at the corn maze! We never made it to any of our local corn mazes this year and we're enjoying a good soaking this weekend from the nor'easter too. (Though I'm not really enjoying all the rain since I feel like we have just been having so many gray/rainy days this fall).

  2. Sorry about the hard volleyball season, but at least your evenings are more relaxing now. The corn maze festival looks like fun.
    Blessings, Dawn
