Weekly Wrap Up - Enjoying the Great Outdoors

Virginia in the fall is one of the most beautiful places on earth.  We had family from out of state visiting this week and we spent some time hiking in the mountains and checking out the beautiful scenery that we Virginians often take for granted.

Olivia got in some time at the farm this week.  On Wednesday they did pregnancy checks and ultrasounds on three of the cows and found out they have 3 little bulls on the way in the spring.  The gentleman who owns the farm is teaching a hands on "horse leg dissection" over the weekend and Olivia will be attending that.   Things you never expect to hear your teen daughter say "And if I get there early enough, he'll let me help him rip the hide off and pull off the hooves!"

Lindsey didn't get to the museum this week, but should be back in full swing come next week.  She's also getting ready to start practicing for the Christmas Lantern Tours at the museum.  It's a big time commitment from November through the weekend before Christmas, but she really enjoys it.

Olivia and I met with the academic advisor at the community college where Olivia is currently taking classes.  Since Olivia received the full scholarship to a 4 year college, with plans to start in fall 2020, the advisor  suggested than she not take the additional 3 semesters of classes at the community college since we're paying out of pocket for those.

Earlier this week on the blog I shared my thoughts on letting kids try various things, and ways to afford those things, in my post Giving Them Opportunities.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Congrats to your daughter on a scholarship! The whole horse leg thing...yuck. However, we need vets and anatomy experts in the world so good for her!
