Sunday, Olivia had an opportunity to go to a volleyball training camp with the team from the college she's been accepted to. She spent all day on campus with the coach and team and other prospective team members for the fall. While she was on campus, I ran a few Christmas errands, one of which was picking up our finished ornaments from the pottery place. Aren't these awesome?
When I picked Olivia up, she wasn't as enthused as I'd expected her to be. Apparently the current team didn't impress her with their behavior, and she said she doesn't think that's the kind of role models she wants if she goes to college. (More about "If" in another post.)
Sunday evening, both girls went to babysit for the church they work for. As they were leaving, Lindsey got a cup of water from the faucet in their kitchenette, and her stomach started to hurt almost immediately. By the time she got home (10 minutes or less) she was pretty uncomfortable and then got sick on the stomach several times. She remembered several weeks back when she'd given one of the kids in class water from that same sink, and that child became sick within a few minutes as well. The church is now checking their water supply to see if there is a problem, or if it is just a very strong coincidence.
Monday was a low key, stay at home and just get school work and house work done kind of day. Lindsey had been up over night with more intestinal issues, and although she did her school work, she was obviously not feeling well. In the evening, my brother and his little dog came for a visit. We had a nice family dinner and visit.
Tuesday was Olivia's final exam in her Veterinary Assistant class. You can't imagine the amount of relief on the child's face when she walked off the college campus after she'd finished. The rest of the day was spent working on regular lessons, nothing too exciting. Lindsey had dressed rehearsal for the Lantern Tours at the museum for an hour and then Jiu-jitsu class wrapped up our evening, Lindsey opted not to go to Jiu-jitsu since she was still not quite back to normal.
We were expecting snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Our city schools announced Tuesday that they'd be opening Wednesday on a 2-hour delay and reevaluate in the morning. As you can see in my photo below, there was very little snow to deal with. Our homeschool went on as scheduled and the girls were done most of their work by noon. Lindsey once again had play practice from 4-5pm.
Thursday was pretty chilly with a forecast of an ice storm coming in over night. I decided to do my grocery shopping a day early, just in case they were right this time about the weather. The girls completed school work while I was gone. Lantern Tours started this evening, so I dropped Lindsey off a little before 5pm. Our tour was at 7pm and it was freezing! It was a really nice evening though, and we thoroughly enjoyed each house/play and the horse drawn wagon ride from "old world" to "new world" and back. Olivia of course loved the horses more than anything.
Friday morning we awoke to heavy rains and temperatures that hovered right around freezing. The local county and city schools were closed. I put a big pot of vegetable beef soup on to cook and had the house smelling yummy. Lindsey was up early and finished her school work by 10am....Olivia wasn't even up by 10am. They are so different, one is the early riser, the other considers anything before 10am to be "too early". Temperatures are scheduled to rise later in the day and the icy conditions should clear out, meaning Lantern Tours will be ongoing throughout the night. I'm glad Lindsey's entire play is inside this year (and especially glad we went last night).
Have a great weekend!
Those ornaments turned out great! We had snow and ice this week and all the local schools canceled; but we didn't!
