Weekly Wrap Up - End of the Academic Year

Monday was Olivia's last day of dog/house sitting.  She really likes the dogs, and enjoys the alone time at the other house.  However, she was REALLY happy to be able to sleep in her own bed Monday night.  She also had her first experience of filling up her own car with gas, using her own debit card to do it.  Lindsey had a very short day of school, she's down to only one subject at the moment.  She did some babysitting for a couple of hours mid-day.  I got the majority of our garden planted.  So far, I have 3 types of tomatoes, zucchini and several lettuces planted.  My Jeep was still in the shop.

Tuesday Olivia was out the door on her own to work, and I had to take Lindsey to see an orthopedic surgeon at 8am.  Her shoulders tend to pop out of socket often, but the left one doesn't seem to want to go back in correctly.  Thankfully, there is nothing broken/torn in the shoulder.  However it does need some work, so she'll be starting physical therapy next week to strengthen the muscles to hold the shoulder in, and to loosen up the injured part to give her the range of motion she's lost.  She went straight from the doctor appointment to her nanny job.  Jiu-jitsu wrapped up the evening.  Still no Jeep, getting parts shipped seems to be an issue.

Wednesday, Olivia has two farms to be at, so she goes from one to the other.  My father-in-law had an appointment to get his truck seat reupholstered here in our town, so he and the mother-in-law arrived around 7:30am. Tom followed him over to the shop at 8am to drop off the truck.  They spent the day with us, and it was a really nice day.  I made a pot of baked potato soup, a loaf of crusty bread and a banana cake for lunch.

Lindsey finished her last school subject for the year, so she's officially a junior now.  She worked from 10:30-1:30.  My father-in-law's truck was ready for pickup at 1pm.  The in-laws stayed until Olivia got home from work so they could see her new vehicle and then they headed home.  She found out at work, that the equestrian center sale fell through.  She's been offered a full time job, with benefits through the 2021-2022 academic year!  She was so happy, and so are we.  She really enjoys this job, it's close to home and it's giving her a lot more hands on experience.  She'll also get a chance to work with the collegiate equestrian team horses during the year as the students return and bring back their horses.  Thankfully, my Jeep was finally ready around 4:30pm, so Olivia gave me a ride over to the garage to pick it up.  Thankfully, we purchased and extended warranty with the Jeep, and that covered all of the repairs.

Thursday
was a regular work day for everyone.  I did some grocery shopping.  While I was out, I stopped by Lowe's to pick up a gallon of paint for an outside project that I started back in March.  In the afternoon I worked on laundry and then sat down to work on fall school scheduling.  The girls had jiu-jitsu in the evening.  While they were gone I worked in the garden and planted some marigolds as well.

Friday morning and everyone scattered to the four corners for their various jobs.  I'm continuing to work on the fall school planning.  Lindsey has a job interview later today at a local gift shop.

I've got to tell you folks, it's a bit weird feeling having an "adult" child.  She's independent, and mature and that was the goal, but it's just weird realizing the dynamic has changed.

Have a great weekend!

  1. What a fantastic week-- an independent "kid", finishing up the school year, a job offer with benefits-- that's fantastic! I am feeling the same way with my oldest. It is a weird shift in dynamics as they age isn't it? He might not be 18 yet but in some ways/some days it's like he's living at home in his 20's!

  2. Congrats on the new job. What an ordeal with the jeep. I am glad the repairs were covered.
