Weekly Wrap Up - May Brings the Heat

Saturday afternoon we had Olivia's birthday party with the family.   Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins were here and it was a really nice day.   I made homemade pulled pork bbq, and it was delish!!   Here are my brothers, my two girls and my niece Harlie.   I think Olivia has finally accepted the fact that at 5ft. 2inches, she is now officially the shortest sibling/cousin.
Monday we knocked out school by lunch time.  Olivia went to do one of my friend's house to do several hours of yard work as part of her fundraising for Haiti.  I'm always glad to hear what good workers these kids are.   While she was there, Lindsey and I knocked out her year end testing.

Tuesday was my older brother's birthday (he's the shorter of the 2 in the photo above).   The girls and I drove out to have lunch with him and to take him a hummingbird cake for his birthday.   A round trip (just travel time) is close to 3 hours, so this was a no-school day.   In the evening we went to hear Jesse Duplantis preach at our church.

Wednesday I made the trek back out to my brothers to help him sand and finish some of the hardwood floors in his house.   The girls did school work while I was gone and we all had a nice deli bought dinner when I got home.

Thursday was test day, oh the agony.   Olivia had both and Algebra 2 test and a biology test and Lindsey had her spelling test.   Once we got through regular school, we went ahead and knocked out Olivia's end of year testing so I can mail it back in.   In the afternoon  I took Lindsey to the museum to get fitted for her 1850's costume.   She was so excited!!   With the top of the apron up is typical working around the house dress, if visitors come to call the top is quickly undone to make for a more proper look.  We still need shoes, so ignore her stocking feet.

This child does not do well with heat, and with all these layers (chemise, petticoat, dress, apron, kerchief and stockings) plus her own undergarments, in an outdoor setting...I have concerns.  I'm sure she'll do fine, and she's very excited...but ya'll it was 92 here today and we're not even through the first week of May!

Friday (today) is co-op, then grocery shopping.   The girls are going to a belated birthday party from 4-6pm then we'll all come home for dinner.

In case you missed it, I posted our 8th Grade Curriculum Picks this week.

I hope you had a great week!

  1. We have a few living history museums in New England and I've always wondered how they do it in the heat; it can be brutal in the summer.

    1. Yes, there's been a few days here already where I've wondered if she'd be ok, but so far so good.

  2. I don't do well in the heat either. I hope she does well. I love her costume. We really enjoyed that museum when we traveled through a few years ago.

    1. They've really added a lot to the museum, if you ever get back through the area (let me know), but be sure and stop again.

  3. Sounds like a good week! Looks like the new costume was a nice reward for hard work at school too. I always wonder how hot it must be wearing all those layers! Thanks for linking up!

  4. Neither my daughter or I do well in the heat, so I can't imagine all those layers. It's a great looking costume though! I hope she enjoys it.

    1. So far she's done really well, but is pretty limp in the evenings once she hits the AC at home.

  5. Sounds like a good week - except for test day that is! I feel for Lindsay-all those clothes and hot weather would not be a happy combination for me.
