Weekly Wrap Up - Another Snowy One

Saturday morning we were up early and out the door to work concession stand at our church's recreation basketball league.   Neither of the girls play, but working concessions allows us to earn money towards our Haiti missions trip in July.    The afternoon brought snow, sleet, freezing fog and caused all evening activities to be canceled.

Sunday we awoke to a much smaller amount of snow than we'd expected.  They said 8-12 inches for us, but we ended up with about 4 inches, and ice.  Church was canceled, and all accompanying activities as well.  Since this was one of our few mornings with everyone home, I fixed a big breakfast of country ham and fried eggs.   Then we spent the rest of the day chugging water because of the salt in the ham (but it was worth it).

Monday brought cold temperatures and all the local schools were closed because the snow had turned into ice overnight.   I went out around 10:30am to drop off a deposit for ballet and run by the grocery store.  The roads were pretty good by then.  It was day 7 or Lindsey's apple experiment so she dug all the shriveled up apple slices out of their various mixtures to see what caused the biggest change.   The rest of the day was pretty standard school work.   The girls headed to the gym in the evening with their dad, and I headed out to deliver a meal to a church family.   The roads had started to refreeze, so I was glad to get everyone back home.
Tuesday, Olivia was off to work on the horse farm early and didn't return until about 2:30.   She had a wonderful time traveling to pick up a new horse and getting him settled in, but it put her way behind on lessons.   The girls headed off to the YMCA in the evening, which further put Olivia behind, and from here on it was a snowball that she just couldn't get to slow down.
Wednesday we were up early to try and get school going.   We left home at 12:45 to head across the mountain to the indoor trampoline park to celebrate a friends 16th birthday.  This was a great time, with a really good group of kids who all get along really well...and there was ice cream afterward, so what's not to love?
Olivia took her school work with her to church and worked on lessons as she listened to the speaker...and she's still behind.

Thursday was a repeat of Wednesday, up early, hit the books, and out the door to a field trip that had been postponed from last week.   This was a really cool trip that took us through three local historical sites...one of which I had no idea was even here.   Here are a few photos of Fairfax Hall, a former premier railroad hotel, and boarding school.

While we were on our field trip snow moved into the area, and with temperatures in the 20's it got slick pretty quick.  Thankfully we were able to get home without incident and hunkered down for the rest of the evening.  We had breakfast for dinner consisting of sausage, eggs, biscuits and homemade waffles...it just felt fitting for the blustery evening.

Friday we're off again in different directions.  Olivia's working at the horse farm, and Lindsey and I will head out to transport last weeks surgery patient to get staples removed.   We'll have a quick dinner and then head out to volleyball at 7pm.  I'm hoping that Olivia somehow gets caught up on her school work by the end of the day...or she'll be finishing the week on Saturday.

Be sure and read this weeks edition of Monday Momentum and see where I am on my weight loss journey.

  2. Sounds like a pretty busy week despite all the snow. I just love when we tour a nearby house or museum that I didn't even know existed until some smart homeschooling mom puts a trip together for us. Then I get to learn just as much as the boys!

  3. We had things cancelled because of snow last weekend too, although we didn't get very much, and everything was pretty much back to normal early in the week. Fairfax Hall is gorgeous - what an interesting hidden treasure!! Thanks for linking up!
