Bible Workbooks - Volumes 1 & 2 (Book Review)

Studying the Bible can be done in many different ways.  Some people like to study by topics, some by people and other's like to go book by book or who like to study in chronological order.   Ways to study are as various as the people doing the studying and all of those are ok.

Author Catherine B. Walker and Moody Publishing have recently released Bible Workbooks Volume 1 (Old Testament) and Volume 2 (New Testament) to help bring some of those various study methods together and to give a little framework to the novice.      The books are written in a factual way, rather than an inspirational one, allowing the student (high school or adult) to gather and understand background basics more than ideology.

'Volume 1, Old Testament, is a chronological study of Israel's history.   All scripture quotations are from the King James translation, but you can definitely look those same scriptures up in your preferred translation if that makes it easier for you to understand.  The workbook itself is three hole punched, so it can easily go into a regular notebook binder either as is, or you can easily remove the perforated pages.   This workbook contains fill in the blank, time lines, maps, scriptures to look up, short answer questions and is broken up into easily identifiable sections that allow for easy breaks in your study.

Volume 2, New Testament, is a brief study of all the books of the New Testament.  Like Volume 1, the workbook is three hole punched and also has perforated pages for easy removal.  Scripture quotations are again from the King James version.  This workbook offers the same format, with time lines, maps and questions, but also offers information on each book such as author, to whom it was written and the general theme.

These books would easily lend themselves to either group or individual study.  For homeschoolers, the two combined notebooks are easily enough for a high school credit in Biblical studies.  In fact, my youngest will be using this as a high school elective in the coming years.
