Weekly Wrap Up–Goodbye May!

Spring has unofficially left the building (for now).  Temperatures soared into the high 90’s this week.  Factor in some intense humidity and it’s been pretty miserable outdoors during the daytime.

This has been a week of getting things checked off the “to-do” list for me. The girls have spent their days reading, drawing, playing with the dog, feeding themselves and the dog popsicles and playing piano.

Monday we did take a family field trip and travel to the Frontier Culture Museum.  If you are ever traveling clos by the FCM, I highly recommend that you take a day to visit.   There is always so much to see and do at FCM.  In fact, I took so many photos I had to break my blog post up into two parts.  Part 1 was of the Old World (way back in Europe).  Part 2 was of the New World (early America).

Tuesday I met with our local 4-H contact person to discuss the possibility of starting a new 4-H group in the area.  This would be a leadership/community involvement club instead of the typical animal and agriculture 4-H.  More on that when I get it all worked out.

Wednesday the girls and I worked specifically on housework.  The girls are great helpers and the don’t need to be told to help.  This cuts the housework time down drastically.

Thursday was brutal.  We travelled to my brothers home and helped sort through our Moms belongings and prepare for a sale.  She has Alzheimer’s and is declining pretty rapidly so we’re trying to prepare for the very real fact that we may need to put her in a home before long.   I’ve never seen the TV show “Hoarders”.  However, I’m quite certain we could have made high ratings on their show.   Three adults and two children worked for 12 hours, on ONE storage building.  We still didn’t get through it all.

Friday was our local support group used curriculum sale.   I didn’t have a great deal of items left, but I went with the hopes of raising more of the needed funds for my upcoming trip, and came away with $51 in two hours.   I also shared on S.A.H.M. I Am! this week about some of the fundraising we’ve been doing. Please pop over and see how we’re doing, and perhaps you’d like to help with a financial donation.  We’ve almost reached the necessary goal for travel expenses and now we’re working on buying the supplies to take with us.

  1. I just followed you over from the Weekly Wrap-Up at WUHS and I love your blog - I'm now following you on GFC.

The situation with your mom must be so hard! Sounds like you're handling it with grace and strength.

    1. Thanks for popping over and becoming my newest follower.

The situation with our mom is tough on so many levels. The fact that the changes are happening so quickly is a bit unsettling.

      Happy homeschooling!
