SchoolhouseTeachers.com (TOS Review Crew)

As part of the 2016 Schoolhouse Review Crew, I was asked to review the Yearly Membership at SchoolhouseTeachers.com. This online educational center offers almost 200 classes from Pre-k all the way through 12th grade.  There are various levels of classes, some lasting short term (unit studies) and others that can be stretched out for an entire academic year (core subjects like science or geography). Classes offer various options such as printable lessons and worksheets, video links and project ideas.  Achievement Certificates are also available to print out at the completion of classes.

For this review, my oldest daughter, Olivia, started working through the Animal Science program.  This particular course is taught by Sonya Brouillette, who is a homeschooling mom of three, practicing veterinarian and science teacher.  This course is 27 weeks in length and gives the student the opportunity to study more in depth (with provided resources) for full high school credit or to be a little more laid back for middle school students.    Olivia is an avid animal lover, and I've always said I expect her to go into the veterinary field, but have not been able to find an Animal Science program for her until now.   She loves working through the lessons, observing animals and doing more research to go along with her love of animals (dogs especially).  This has been a nice fit for her.

Lindsey, my youngest daughter, loves to build, and destroy things.  For her, we've been working on the Tinker's Club.   This class  gives the student the assignment to find various items to used in the challenges.  For example one lesson focuses on wheels and how they have impacted our lives, the student then goes on to either come up with various sized wheels (old toy cars, etc.) or to create new wheels out of items like used CD's and then use those items to complete the challenge.   Lindsey has really enjoyed getting to take things apart, see what's inside and then try to make something new out of the parts.

Whether you are looking for full curriculum or supplemental items, there are plenty of options with SchoolhouseTeachers.com  In addition to your typical math, science and language arts, you'll find electives such as Accounting, Engineering, Filmmaking, Homesteading and even Media Socialization.  Foreign languages range from ASL (American Sign Language) to French, Spanish, Latvian and Hebrew.

Before you think your kids are getting all the breaks here, there's also a great little tab called Planners & Resources that gives the parent lots of helpful items, including full access to all six digital Schoolhouse Planners, a $125 value!!

Yearly Membership only costs $139 and gives you access to the entire site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you'd like to try the site on a short term basis, you can also purchase membership by the month for $12.95.  There are no extra charges per family member or class.   There is also an option for Co-ops and Groups.

I'm pleased to announce that my readers can now get a 50% discount (through January 31, 2016) by using the coupon code CREWFOLLOWER at checkout.
