Lindsey provided childcare all of this week here at the house. The girl she was watching was 11...just 2 years younger than herself, but the difference in maturity levels was vast. She's spent time teaching the girl how to sew, and how to make homemade pizza and zucchini bread. They've been busy crafting and playing games, and going to the pool. I really enjoyed watching her teach the sewing skills, explaining each step, giving encouragement and being patient.
Wednesday was a little different as far as scheduling. Lindsey had her annual sleepover at the museum starting at 1pm, so I filled in as the babysitter while she was gone. The kids at the museum fixed authentic foods on their farms in the afternoon, then had a group feast after the museum closed. They played folk ball, capture the flag and other games, and had a barn dance, all culminating with spending the night (and going to bed after 2am) in several houses at the museum (all under the close supervision of several adult interpreters).
Thursday was a pretty normal day with everyone's schedule. Lindsey was pretty tired but was a trooper. In addition to her 8 hours with the older child, she pulled 2 hours watching a group of 4 siblings later in the day. She'll be making almost as much money this week as her sister does at the YMCA. Lindsey and her charge made several batches of slime.
Friday the goal is to get to the pool in between thunderstorms. We'll see how that goes. We have nowhere to be in the evening and are planning to keep it that way.
We're in the middle of this miserable heatwave on the east coast. My poor husband works for a facility that makes industrial sized air conditioners...yet their facility is not air conditioned. He has been so fatigued from the heat, and has gotten sick a couple of times. He is a good man, and good provider for his family, and I don't take lightly that he's working 10 hour days in this miserable weather.
I hope you've all had a good week and have stayed relatively cool.
Wow! That is ironic that he doesn't have A/C at work. I hope he has a relaxing and cool weekend. Great work teaching the girls work ethic. It is a blessing to have hardworking young people in our world.

I just love watching my boys interact with other "children" and seeing how patient they can be when teaching. Looks like your daughter was having just as much as her charge and what a great work ethic to instill in them both.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great work ethic statement to memorize and live by! Glad to see that your girls are seeing the fruits of it. :-) How strange that your husband doesn't have a/c while making a/c units! I feel bad for guys like him and so many others that are working outside or in uniforms or whatever during these very hot days. Of course, I don't have a/c at work either - while we're roasting coffee - and it is HOT. Have a great week!
