Sunday we were up early and out the door. Olivia went back to bed when we returned home after the morning feeding. Mid-morning I made Belgian waffles with Nutella, whipped cream and strawberries and the aroma was enough to beckon Olivia from her room. We did our last stint of dog care after the mid-day horse feeding. For dinner, Lindsey made her signature meal; homemade egg noodles, fried sausages and hot slaw (fried cabbage with apple cider vinegar). We tried watching the last of the Masked Singer Season 3, then realized that we had caught up to production, so we'll have to wait.
Monday Bella arrived around 7:15am. Lindsey had her first orthodontist appointment at 11am, so Olivia filled in with childcare while we went to the appointment. The protocol for the orthodontis, was we had to pull into a number parking space; text the office to let them know we are there and where we are parked. Then a masked gal came out to check Lindsey temperature (which she never did) and gave me two forms to sign. One asking if she'd tested positive for Covid-19, been around anyone who tested positive, or is showing any signs of the virus. The other form was a consent form saying I know there is a pandemic and that I authorized her to enter their building. I get the first form, but seriously, would I have driven her across the county if I didn't authorize her to enter their facility?
Lindsey and I stopped to pick up the school food on the way home. We had lunch when we got home, and then Bella went down for her afternoon nap. At 1:15 Lindsey had to run up to the house behind us to babysit 4 kids while the mom when to her pregnancy check up. She was back before Bella woke up. Olivia and I worked on the back patio weeding project that never seems to end. Dinner was left overs from Sunday's dinner and some added veggies on the side. Olivia had a 2 hour Zoom meeting in the evening.
Tuesday was cold and rainy. Bella got here around 7:30am and we were already on cup of coffee number 2. Our graduation committee has been struggling with how to proceed. The venue we'd reserved has told us they will not be letting any events happen in their facility, indefinitely. We've looked at other venues, but with our state still under stay-at-home orders, facilities can't commit to anything. Somehow that's turned into an "us against them" situation in the group. Three specific moms are adamant about having an in person, with guests, event, and any other suggestion is met with great hostility. We had a pretty significant fire storm erupt early on Tuesday, and by mid morning 5 of the 10 graduate families had dropped out of graduation, including us.
I ran out to vote in our city elections and the rest of the day was spent working on small projects around the house. I moved the refrigerator and cleaned out under it, and used the air compressor to get all the built up dust off the coil and fan motor. I try to do this twice a year. It doesn't take long but it's just one of those task I always hate to do.
We had flounder, salad and alfredo noodles for dinner.
Wednesday Bella arrived at about 7:30am, and was in quite the mood due to not being able to find one of her favorite shoes while getting dressed. Shoes are a big thing to her, I feel sorry for her Mom when it's time to buy prom shoes. The rest of the day went well here at home. I have no idea what we actually did, but I'm sure it was earth shattering, ahem.
Dinner was pork loin, mashed potatoes and collard greens.
We found the semi-finals of The Masked Singer Season 3 on Roku, so it was a good night...and it was cookie night!
Thursday morning brought more rain, but no Bella. Her mom was off work again. Lindsey took her literature and grammar final exams. She's not down to one class, Spanish 2, left to finish. I did the grocery shopping and school food pickup then we worked on laundry.
Olivia has been waiting to hear back from the YMCA to see where things stand for her summer camp counselor position. She finally received and email back saying they have cancelled summer camps for this year (along with every other organization in the area), but they will be opening an "essential workers child care center" for those who are retuning to work as the state starts opening up. She was offered a full time 40+ hours a week position, starting June 8 with no scheduled end in sight since there isnt' an official school restart date.
As you can imagine the protocols are a lot different and more strict. The biggest thing being that Olivia would be the only "adult" with a group of the same 9 kids all day, every day (to keep to our groups of 10 or less state mandate). She has until June 1 to make a decision on whether she wants to accept the position.
Dinner was a mix of leftovers, and some of the school lunch food items that we're finding the little kids won't eat. After dinner we started playing Clue-Las Vegas Edition. Lindsey bought this game recently and this was our first chance to play. Definitely a keeper.
Jayce's mom texted me late in the evening to see if she could bring him Friday morning. I told her yes, but that she needed to bring cash to pay for backpay as well as payment for Friday at drop off time, and she agreed.
Friday morning we were up early for Jayce's 6:30am arrival. A little after 7am the mom texted that she'd overslept but would be here. Bella arrived at 7:30am and Jayce arrived shortly after 7:45am (with payment in hand).
My morning was spent cleaning house. Olivia needed a rain coat for the farm (we're still getting rain), and a pair of rain boots with better traction, so a trip to Tractor Supply will happen later in the day.
Dinner is scheduled to be homemade steak and cheese subs and cheese fries.
I hope you all have a good weekend. I'm sure it'll be a vastly different Memorial Day weekend than we're used to.
I would have dropped out of the graduation committee by then too. So far our state is saying that summer camps will open just not until the end of June... we'll see if that actually happens or not but it's true that these families need somewhere to put their school aged kids if they're expecting even some of them to go back to work.
ReplyDeleteOur camps are cancelled, pools have announced they won't be opening and now, going into week #11 our governor is expected to make masks mandatory in public; even though our numbers are trending down and they've opened Va Beach.
DeleteI'm sorry about the graduation ceremony fiasco. I know it has to be so disappointing for y'all. It sounds like a great job opportunity for Olivia! All of your dinner plans sound delicious, especially the homemade waffles with Nutella!
ReplyDeleteThose waffles are divine!
DeleteI am so sorry about the graduation mess. So people struggle so much with change and adapting. I don't blame you at all for dropping out. Hoping you all get some sunshine soon. We get a bit today and then back to rain.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Dawn
It's unfortunate, that graduation turned out the way it did; but at this point I'm glad to be removed from all the drama.
