Weekly Wrap Up - Short Lived Employment

So, last week I mentioned that Olivia had started training Thursday for her new job at the YMCA. Friday before my blog post went live, the plan was that she was supposed to go in for more training from 8:30am until 1:30pm.  About 8:15am, just as we were heading out the door to drop her off, a group text went out not to show up for work and to wait for further instructions.   Some time later a virtual meeting was held and it was announced that even though the YMCA hadn't reopened, they'd been getting it ready to reopen, and this week 3 staff members tested positive for the virus.   Everything got shut down, again.   The new anticipated camp start date is June 29.   The camp staff work in a different facility, and were not exposed that we are aware of.

Saturday morning we headed to the horse farm.  The drive to work gives Olivia a little "in the dark driving hours" for her requirement of 10 after dark hours, and the drive home gives her more time towards her overall 45 hour requirement.  Getting 45 hours of driving time in is a lot harder than it sounds.   One of the horses was particularly troublesome and aggressive, so the morning feeding took longer than usual.  The morning was low key and we headed back to the farm for the 12:40pm feeding.   The husband picked up Chinese food for dinner.

Sunday morning was odd.  I'm NEVER.EVER late for anything, EVER.  I set my clock Saturday night like always, but it didn't go off on Sunday.  I woke up at 6:15...we were supposed to have been at the farm at 5:40.  It took me a minute to process, I checked the clock, yes, it was set but didn't alarm for whatever reason.  I grabbed Olivia and we sped to the farm, she texted the owner apologizing profusely and told her we were on the way.   That set the tone for most of the day.  We got back home and quickly got changed for the 9am service at church.  I chucked a pork roast in the crockpot before heading out the door.  The 12:40 feeding was less hectic, although there was one horse that decided to act up.  The rest of the day we all just chilled.   Dinner was pork roast, mashed potatoes/gravy and hot rolls.  There should have been a green vegetable or salad...but I just didn't.

Monday was pretty typical.  Bella arrived around 7:30am.  Olivia slept in now that her job is on hold and she can't really go anywhere or do anything.  I worked on posting some curriculum for sale online. It's odd what FB decides to flag as not meeting "community standards".  Life Science has been a beast to get posted in a way that FB doesn't block it.  I think I'll do a post on my blog as well and see if I have anything anyone needs.  Be looking for that  post the first of next week.   Dinner was cheeseburgers and broccoli.

Tuesday morning Lindsey had her annual checkup/sports physical appointment.  Olivia stayed home and watched Bella while we were gone.  Everything went well, no issues and I stopped to get her an iced coffee on the way home.  The pediatricians office merged with a different hospital group than previously associated, which brought on new patient questionnaires.   "Have you in recent weeks or months avoided activities due to worry or fear?"   My child "Activities??  like there are any activities anymore...the whole world stopped because of worry and fear."   Her pediatrician agreed with her on the point.  We grabbed an iced coffee on the way home. The rest of the day as filled with laundry and reading.   The kids went to their abbreviated BJJ class in the evening.   Our late dinner consisted of flounder, broccoli/cheddar rice and green beans.

Wednesday  Lindsey and Bella started their day off early as usual.   Mid-morning, Olivia and I went on a road trip to see my brother.  This was her first long distance driving experience and it was raining too.  The whole trip was a total of 110 miles.    She pointed out how much longer trips take when you're the one driving, and realized how quickly the eyes can fatigue too.  She did really well, even with one total jerk giving her problems for obeying the speed limit.  She had a virtual meeting at 4pm for her job, so we got home just in time for that.   Bella ended up staying until a little after 6pm, so we had a late dinner of spaghetti and meatballs.

Thursday was pretty standard.  Bella arrived early, I picked up the free school food and then went grocery shopping.  Olivia worked all morning online, doing training for her job.  Mid afternoon I took Olivia for her annual checkup.  Her pediatrician asked what her plans are now that she's graduated and she said "Gap year."   He said he's normally not a fan of gap years but agrees 100% that this is THE year to do one because "the entire education system is going to be a train wreck" this fall.   We grabbed a milkshake for the drive back.   The kids had BJJ in the evening.  Dinner was baked chicken and veggies.

Friday the plan is currently to meet my friend Yvette for coffee mid-morning.  We will both go through the drive thru and then sit in the parking lot to chat and enjoy our beverage; we still can't go in and sit down.   Then it'll be home to do laundry and clean house.   No clue what's for dinner yet.

I shared a review of No Such Thing as Can't this week.  This is a great read, especially for those who may think the odds are stacked against them.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I like both your daughter's answers to their "medical" questions. I'm pretty sure that's what my kids would have been like too!

  2. I agree that it is harder than it sounds to get driving hours in! Of course we live on a farm, so my kids start driving very early. My 14 year old son could probably drive anywhere in the country by himself!

  3. I am glad you had a pretty good week even with the stumbles. Anne was having a socially distant visit with a friend in the carport last night and her friend was talking about going to a local college in the fall. The whole thing sounded like a train wreck. We shall see how that goes. It is such a blessing to homeschool.
    Blessings, Dawn
