Weekly Wrap Up - More Snow

Sunday morning we had a heavy, wet snow start around 4am.   I got up at 4:45 to get ready to take Olivia to work and the road was clear.  In the 15 minutes she was getting dressed thing deteriorated pretty rapidly.  Just as we were starting out the door, her boss texted and told us to stay home.  We headed back to bed.  I got up a little after 7am, when we normally would have been coming home from work.  We had about 4 inches of snow on the roads and almost white out conditions.    Around 11am, things switched drastically, the sun came out and temperatures shot up into the mid-forties.  Snow started melting super-fast, and we were able to make it to the afternoon feeding, and 2nd farm job on totally clear roads.

Monday was pretty standard academically.  Lindsey's nanny job is still on hiatus this week, as the family she works for did test positive for covid-19 last week and are still in quarantine. Olivia went to farm #3 midday to see a new calf that had been born and help get it tagged, and move the cattle into a different field.

Tuesday morning Olivia and I were out the door early to take her to work at farm #1.  She had to fill in for the owners on the morning shift since they had an early doctor appointment out of town.   Once we were home, I worked on making some final curriculum choices for the upcoming school year.  That post will be coming as soon as books arrive for photos.

Wednesday we made preparations for another upcoming snow that was supposed to start late afternoon through the weekend.  Lindsey's orthodontist called first thing to see if we could reschedule her Thursday appointment to later today to get ahead of the storm.  This worked out great for us as far as scheduling went.  Of course while she was in the orthodontist sleet, snow and freezing rain started.  Schoolwork went well.  Our evening church activities were cancelled, so we baked cookies and played card games by the wood stove.

Thursday, instead of heavy snow, we woke up to rain and temperatures in the high 30's.  Since the snow didn't materialize, I went to the store to pick up the few things we needed.  Lindsey finished her school work without issue, and Olivia continued working on her German.   Lindsey did get to go babysit for a couple of hours with her regular Thusrday family. By the time she got home we had snow and sleet falling.  We had a quick dinner, and the girls headed to jiu-jitsu.  The instructor had contacted everyone and said they were moving class to an earlier time of 6pm.  We ended up having to pick them up about 30 minutes later due to rapidly deteriorating driving conditions.

Friday morning we work up to only about 4 inches of snow, but with solid ice beneath it.  Since the precipitation started out as rain on Thursday, the roads couldn't be treated and when the temperatures dropped, everything froze, so road crews were fighting an uphill battle.  The husband was able to get to work without incident, but we're not too far away from his job.  Lindsey finished her school work pretty early and then she and Olivia went to shovel our elderly neighbors' driveways for them.  We have more ice in the forecast for the next few days, so I'm not sure Olivia will be working in the morning.

I found a new recipe for turkey tetrazini that we'll be adding to our regular meal rotation.  I doubled the recipe, and used canned chicken chunks in place of the turkey.   VERY tasty.  I forgot to take a photo for you.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

  1. I had turkey tetrazini on my monthly menu for February; I'll have to check out that recipe. I am to thankful that we haven't had much ice this year. We did have slippery snowy roads last Sunday that made me rather nervous until everyone arrived back home for the night.

  2. We only had the one storm this week. The weather has just been grey and rainy. I am glad you got everywhere safely.
    Blessings, Dawn
