Saturday was my 54th birthday. That just doesn't even sound possible ya'll. I don't feel that old, and I'm not complaining. Not everyone gets to grow older, and I'm happy to still be here. The day started off at 4:45am, which has been the standard weekend for the last 3 years now. Once Olivia texted that she'd gotten to work, I went back to bed until about 7:30am, then woke up frantic because the dog was supposed to have had his pain meds at 7am. Lindsey had the baby from 8am-6pm, and Olivia pulled a double, working at two horse farms. I got some cool gifts from Tom and the girls, and my BFF sent me these beautiful flowers!
My older brother, Nelson, came to visit around noon and he and I went out for a lovely lunch at a little burger joint that was the same chain as the one on our street growing up. He also brought me this yummy cake.
After the baby left, we went to a fun little 50's style drive in here in our town. You can sit in the car and order through the speaker, or you can sit inside and order over a phone at your table. The juke box plays 50's music and it's just a cool eating experience. I left my phone at home and didn't take photos.
Monday was a regular work day for both kids. The dog's leg seemed a bit better. He's able to stretch it out more and is putting a bit more weight on it. He is adjusting quickly to being an indoor dog. We'll have to see if this is permanent or temporary depending on how he heals. Yvette took me out for lunch for my birthday. Check out my new ceramic drink holder!
Tuesday morning Lindsey was up early, got her schoolwork done and was out the door to work by 7:30am. I have to say, she's really done an excellent job of working full time and keeping up with her schoolwork this year. I believe she's starting to get a bit burnt out on the childcare scene. She's talking about taking her senior year off (except for the baby on Fridays) so she can actually do some fun things. We've not been able to do any fun day trips or field trips this year because she's been working every day.Olivia was off work. She and I dropped the dog off at the veterinarian at 7:30am for the ultrasound on his leg. Then we dropped her car off to get the oil changed, which didn't take long. Olivia went horseback riding, and I puttered around the house waiting to get the call about Shalom. We finally went to pick him up at 4pm, and he slept the rest of the evening and night. He had to be sedated for his ultrasound, and he just doesn't seem to do well with sedation. He definitely has a totally ruptured ACL, and damaged his meniscus, and has arthritis in the joint as well. He's a little over achiever. The veterinarian and I both agree that surgery at his age, and with his sedation sensitivity would not be a good choice for him. We will give him 8-12 weeks of crate rest, while we start him on supplements that will help all of his joints. He "might" be able to return to his beloved back yard unattended later, but time and circumstances with tell the tale on that. The ACL/meniscus will heal and he'll likely have a limp, but it's better than a $3,000 surgery that he may not wake up from.
Wednesday was a regular school and work day for both girls. Shalom was very groggy and lethargic. He really struggles with sedation, so I've made the executive decision that he'll never be sedated again, unless it's end of life. It's took hard on him. We had a guest speaker at church, so we all went to church in the evening.
Thursday Lindsey did school early and was at work by 7:30am. Shalom was a little more happy to be alive, but not back to normal. Olivia and I went to church, then we went grocery shopping. Olivia went to jiu-jitsu, and Lindsey and I went to church. Lindsey picked up a runny nose from one of her kids, and you're not allowed at jiu-jitsu if you have any type of symptom of anything.
Friday the baby arrived early morning. Olivia had to travel to go meet the owners of the new company she's going to be working for. I decided to ride along since it was several hours round trip. The dog decided he doesn't like his food or his meds...sigh.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
I do hope your dog recovers. Happy birthday. I turn 50 this year and don't feel that old at all either. Hurray for good health.

Happy birthday!! It sounds like you had a wonderful celebration. I hope your poor dog is feeling better soon; I think you made the right choice to avoid surgery. It definitely sounds like that would have been a real struggle for him.
