Weekly Wrap Up - Vacation Week

This week was our spring break/anniversary trip to Tennessee.  Olivia had to work the weekend, so as soon as she finished the afternoon feeding and got home, we did the Easter basket thing, and then jumped in the car and headed out of town.  I'll share links to places, for anyone who might be headed to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg TN area.

We rented a WONDERFUL house in the country through AirBNB, but it was less that 5 minutes to Pigeon Forge and Sevierville.  Honestly, I could have just sat on the front porch of the house all week sipping coffee and sweet tea throughout the day and been very content.  The hot tub was also a great spot to spend time.

However, despite the lovely porch, we did a lot of touristy stuff.  We went to the Dixie Stampede dinner show (best chicken I've ever had in my life), the Pirates Voyage dinner show, the Alcatraz Museum and the Island.  We traveled to Gatlinburg and hit the 8-mile arts and crafts loop, and also walked the main strip in town.  We had lunch at Ole Red, but honestly the food was not nearly as good as last year, but the singer that was performing while we were there was really good, and cute so there's that, grins.

We had breakfast one morning at Mel's Diner, as in "Kiss my grits!".  The food was great, with really reasonable prices...but honestly, we went for the atmosphere.

We also went to a breakfast place called Red Rooster Pancake House.  The food was a bit more expensive here, but it was well worth it.  They have the most amazing pancake and waffle flavor combinations.  We actually ate there twice and both times, Olivia got the Bavarian pancakes.  The pancakes with warm Bavarian cream layered between the pancakes, and then covered with a warm fudge sauce.  Thank goodness she couldn't finish it all the first day and I got to "help" her...so very good.

We found a new-to-us spot that we missed last year, called the Old Mill District.  There were all kinds of great shops and restaurants in close proximity to walk and not have to cross crazy busy streets on foot.  Interestingly enough, we ran into a guy from our church when we came out of one of the shops.

In homeschool news, I shared Lindsey's senior year curriculum picks on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Heading off to check out every single thing you have listed! We're hitting that area of Tennessee this summer just as soon as all of my boys are done with school.
