Workboxes are the hottest homeschool craze since the invention of washable markers and crayons! At least if you blog hop often, it would certainly appear that way! Sue Patrick's Workbox System is a step by step guide to getting more accomplished during your school day. Through this innovative program you'll see how to help your kids work more independently and use more of your manipulatives, games and books than you currently use in a days time.
Sue Patrick's system suggests using approximately 12 clear plastic shoe boxes or totes per child, to help your child visualize their daily workload and be able to self motivate during the day. Sue gives a lovely explanation of the benefits to this program on her site, you can access that page here.
The ebook can be purchased for $19 and the printed version of the book is $19.95 plus shipping. You can also purchase 1 and 2 child starter kids, packaged deals, consulting services and center kits as well. To order or to view Sue Patrick's online catalog, click here.
Although homeschooling tends to be tailored to fit the individual family, the creator of this product is very adamant about not tweaking the process. To some, this is a turn off, to others it's a firm foundation. For those who have a large family, in various grade levels I can see that this would be of great benefit. For the organizationally challenged, this will be an invaluable tool.
Admittedly, I did not adhere strictly to the author's method of operation. I pulled out the ideas and methods that worked best for us and implemented them in a much looser fashion; using folders and large baskets to hold items instead of shoe boxes and shelving. As my children grow up and become more individualized in their educations, I may revisit this product again. Currently however, it's not something I feel is of great benefit to us.
