Homemade Ornaments and Puffy Paint

We made homemade ornaments this year.  It was on the schedule for December 17….December 22 we finally had time to get to it.   This is a fun craft, and makes your house smell wonderful!

Cinnamon Applesauce Ornaments:

3 cups applesauce
3 cups ground cinnamon
4 tbspoon white glue

Mix all ingredients thoroughly.  You can start off with a spoon, but will have to switch over to mixing by hand until it reaches the desired thickness.   Use cookie cutters to cut out ornaments.  Be sure to make a hole in the ornament so you can put ribbon through it later!

If you are going to bake the ornaments, place them on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.   When ready, bake at 200 degrees for 2.5 hours.   If you are going to let the ornaments air dry, place them on waxed paper lined cookie sheets and air dry for 2-3 days (or longer as needed).  I’d also be willing to bed you could use a food dehydrator too.

(Confession, I got the puffy paint recipe off Pinterest and I wasn’t really happy with it, but here it is.)

Puffy Paint Recipe:

3/4 cup shaving cream
1/4 cup white glue
1/4 cup flour
food coloring

Mix first three ingredients, then divide into separate bowls before adding food color.

Use a small piece of sandpaper on any rough edges.  After your paint has dried, add ribbon and viola!

Merry Christmas!!
