Weekly Wrap Up - Valentine's Week

We are in Haiti preparation mode. The girls and I spent 6 hours on  Saturday in the concession stand at a basketball program.   This was a fund raiser for our summer Haiti missions trip.   We have a long way to go on fundraising, so if any of you are interested in supporting us with a financial donation, let me know.  We are scheduled to be in Haiti July 2-11, 2019.   If you've seen any news coverage from this week, you'll know that Haiti is in total upheaval right now, so please pray for peace in that country.

Monday was cold with heavy rains and we had a regular school day, with nothing overly exciting to report.  The girls started archery in the evening.  Archery only runs for 8 weeks, but is one of their favorite activities of the year.  We came home and watched the first two acts in Julius Caesar to go along with Olivia's literature program.  I find that when reading plays, it works better for her to have a video reference to help her give personality and faces to the names.

Tuesday was another cold, grey, rainy day, but it was a momentous day as Olivia scored a 92 on her geometry test.   This was huge!!  It gave her a confidence boost, and certainly will bump her class score up.  We watched the last part of Julius Caesar.   Lindsey finished her language arts program for the year.  She is still reading her last literature selection, God Smuggler, and has found that she really likes this book.

Wednesday was another grand math day as Lindsey almost got a perfect score on her first test of the new curriculum.   She would have aced it, had she not misread a problem and solved for the GCF instead of the LCM.    The sun was out, but it was still cold and blustery, so no working at the farm.

Thursday morning we had chiropractor appointments.  I fell several weeks ago, so this was a much needed appointment to get everything put back in place.   Imagine my surprise to find that I actually had a rib out of place.  After the adjustment I was MUCH better.  Later in the morning, Olivia had an opportunity to go shadow a veterinarian and then sit down and talk with him about college courses/requirements, career paths and the expense of starting a practice.   She got to sit in on a tooth extraction, spay and a tumor removal...and she didn't get grossed out (or faint).   This was a great opportunity for her, and she really came away with a lot of great information.

Thursday was of course also Valentine's Day.   The husband went to the local bakery that sells KETO desserts and got me some of the best peanut butter cheesecake cups! We don't go big for Valentine's Day, we just do a simple gift, usually chocolates and the have a nice meal at home.
Friday Olivia was at the farm.   The school day was pretty short as everyone is either working ahead Monday-Thursday, or wrapping up classes all together.    The husband and I are scheduled to go to a Mystery Whodunit Dinner in the evening, and I'll share more about that next week.

I hope you all had a great week!

  1. Congrats on the math scores!! That is huge (especially when it's in a subject they've been struggling with).

  2. We love having video reference for plays too, especially Shakespeare! Congrats on the great math scores - what a great boost that is. Praying that the situation in Haiti improves. We have missionary friends there and are very concerned for them and their families, and for the many innocent victims there. :-(

Thanks so much for linking up at Homeschool Highlights! (I am behind in reading and commenting again!)

  3. Isn't it wonderful when math is coming along? I bet they will enjoy the archery class. The unrest in Haiti is so hard. My mother's friend who is a doctor spends about three months there every year. He is supposed to return in April.
    Blessings, Dawn
