Weekly Wrap Up - The One With a College Student

It's official, Olivia starts college next month!  We found out on Wednesday that she has a spot in the class she needs.   This gets her started towards her Veterinary Assistant certification and it will also help her to get her foot in the door for the Veterinary Technician program.  The vet tech program will be an Associated in Applied Science if she chooses to go that route, but if not she'll at least be employable as a veterinary assistant right our of high school.

Olivia also finished her summer job this week.   I think, based on her comments, that this week was as bad, if not worse, than her first week.  Preschoolers are not the age bracket she enjoys, and she said she'd gladly work with the elementary schoolers any day.   It was a good learning experience though.  She learned to stick it out, even when she wasn't enjoying it, and to do your best even when you aren't feeling it.

Lindsey had a new income source over this past weekend...dog sitting.   The girls have done some pet sitting in the past, but it's always been a "leave the dog at their own home and go walk them several times a day" thing.  This time the little guy stayed with us from Saturday night through Monday evening.   I'm not an indoor dog person, but I have to admit this little guy won me over and I would totally take him if his owner ever wanted to rehome him.

In other news, Lindsey had her consultation with the orthodontist this week.  She's been adamant that she doesn't want braces (she has dental anxiety and a hair trigger gag reflex)...but now her vanity has finally out weighed her fears so it looks like we'll be getting that in the works soon.   Her teeth are considerably more crowded and crooked than her sisters were, so she will be looking at 2-3 years in braces.

I sat down and wrote out our first two weeks of lesson plans for the new year.  Our start date is August 13.   That will give Olivia a full week to get acclimated to her new classes here before she starts the college course work.   The only thing left to do is get Lindsey's online Teaching Textbooks purchased, I'll do that the week before school.
A final parting shot from my garden.  The volunteer pumpkin plants are producing lots of pumpkins, a little too early in the year.  They are lovely though!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Congrats on the new college student! That's great. My son gets his braces off next week and after several years in them he can not wait to be free.
