Some of our garden is producing pretty well. This week I harvested my onions and have them curing in the cellar. I got some green beans blanched and put in the freezer for the winter and we've been eating a great deal of zuchini in various forms. My zuchini didn't grow at all, but thankfully the church at the end of the street has a "harvest table" set up and people put extra produce from their garden there to share. I'm also harvesting (and giving away) purple basil again. This stuff is the herb that just keeps on giving!
The week itself has been pretty typical. Olivia's work schedule this week has been 11:30am-5:30pm. Bella's been getting here around 7:45am until 5pm. We did have a chiropractor appointment on Monday, and Tuesday Olivia had to do the late evening feeding at the original farm she apprenticed at last year. Lindsey has one more week of having Bella here, and Olivia has two more weeks of working at the camp. Hopefully we'll be able to do a little something fun together before we start back to school ourselves. Having said that, there's not a lot to show you, so I thought I'd share a couple of articles showcasing some of the field trips that we've enjoyed in the past. |
We traveled to the Virginia Wildlife Center way back in 2014. Amazement Square was a lovely hands on children's museum we visited in 2013. In 2012, we took the girls to their first Renaissance Faire. I love looking back at these posts and seeing how little the kids were and how much they enjoyed these new experiences.
I don't think I've ever heard of purple basil. It's so pretty! Does it taste just like regular basil?
ReplyDeleteIt has a stronger flavor, not bitter, just more intense. I harvest a bunch and dry it to use over the winter in all kinds of recipes...even scrambled eggs.
DeleteMy garden is giving lots of cherry tomatoes and green beans right now. Your basil looks lovely.
