Weekly Wrap Up - The Hot One

We picked Lindsey up on Friday of last week to bring her home from her little vacation.   She had a wonderful time and came home full of stories to tell.  She also did a photo shoot while she was gone so here are a few photos.   She's really changed/matured/grown up physically these last few months.

Saturday Olivia and I were up early and off to the farm.  She had two new horses to meet and get to know.  One is huge and docile, the other is tiny and ill mannered.  Back home there was yard work, mowing and housework to be done, and the dog got a much needed bath.  The afternoon trip to the farm was uneventful.   We did burgers and hot dogs on the grill for dinner.  Our city cancelled all of it's regular July 4th celebration...there was no parade, carnival, music or fireworks display.   The great news was that the citizens decided to celebrate in grand style.  There were more fireworks, and better ones that usual going up from dusk until probably 11pm or later.  Smoke hung in the air as the sky lit up from every direction.

Sunday's routine is to go to the farm for the morning feeding, then come home and get ready for the 9am church service.  Church ends at 10am now, and we head home to have homemade waffles before heading back to the farm for the afternoon feeding.  We had left over burgers/hot dogs for dinner, and then a crazy storm moved in and stalled out over us for about 45 minutes.  We had 3 separate rounds of hail, and crazy heavy rain.   Heat and humidity moved in and stayed for the entire week, most days reaching the high 90's.

Monday Olivia got to sleep a bit later, since she didn't have to be to work until 7:15 am.  Some of the traffic lights were still out from the storms on Sunday, so driving across town was a bit of a challenge.  Bella's dad was running really late, so she didn't get here until almost 10am.  I spent the entire day getting Lindsey's sophomore year set up in My Homeschool Grades and working out the first three weeks of lesson plans.   Bella's last day here is supposed to be August 7, so Lindsey asked for a 2 week break before starting schoolwork, so our scheduled start date is August 24.  Olivia got off work around 5:15.  We had haddock, rice and radishes for dinner.

Tuesday was status quo.  The girls had jiu-jitsu in the evening.  Their class time was changed again, which now has them going from 6:30pm-7:15pm; which means a late dinner of spaghetti and meatballs.

Wednesday after I dropped Olivia off and Bella arrived I went to pick up groceries.  I went to the outlet grocery store to stock up on pantry items before going to the regular store.  It's weird going out, everyone seems so disconnected and there seems to be a lot of wary glances cast from person to person.  Olivia's work announced that since they are grant funded, and have been working everyone 10-11 hours a day, they are quickly running out of grant money.  Starting next week everyone's hours are being drastically cut, only allowing for 5 staff members onsite for the morning shift, and 5 for the evening shift.  She wasn't thrilled about that change when I picked her up.  Dinner was salads with chicken strips.

Thursday was pretty standard until the afternoon.  My brother came by for a cup of coffee, and to bring Olivia a huge stash of history books he picked up recently.  The in-laws stopped by shortly after Tom got home from work, so we had a nice visit with them and they were able to stay until after Olivia got home from work.  Jiu-jitsu wrapped up the evening.  Dinner was Salisbury steak, potatoes and peas.

Friday morning was payday for Olivia.  She was really thrilled when I showed her  the online paystub and she saw how much money she cleared during this two week pay period.  All that overtime looks better on this end of the week, grins.  Lindsey and Bella spent the morning making a windchime craft kit I'd picked up on Wednesday.  Laundry and a little gardening are in my plans for the day.  We're going to order dinner from a new sub/sandwich shop that just opened up near us.

Have a good weekend!

  1. I was just thinking today that I need to start planning when we should start back to school! How odd that they are running out of grant money; I mean doesn't anyone plan ahead? Seems like if it's hours/ paychecks that messing with the budge that would have been easy to figure out at the start of camp.

    1. That was my thinking too about the planning. One counselor quit in the middle of the day today, so Olivia may be picking up her hours, so that'll help.

  2. We had huge firework displays put on all over the neighborhood from dusk until 5 am. It really was something. How strange about the grant money.

  4. Gorgeous photos! I know what you mean about people looking at each other oddly. I try to remain my normal self when out (which does tend to be shy and reserved).
