I forgot to update you all on some job changes for Olivia. Her employer for the weekend job decided to make some changes, so she's working alone on the morning shift, and getting paid extra since she's doing the feeding and stall cleaning now. The job she interviewed for a couple of weeks ago (another horse farm), finally texted back and said she has the job, and they'll be getting with her on scheduling training. Both jobs are on the weekend, with opportunities to pick up some extra hours during the week. For now, it works, and it's what's opened up for her.
Last month, Tom had put in a new soffit along the sun porch ceiling, by the chimney, where we'd had a leak some time back. I spent the first part of Monday getting that taped off and painted. This was one of those tasks that didn't take long, but I just hated the idea of getting started. I don't like painting, nor do I like climbing up and down the ladder over and over again. But, it's done and looks good, so I'm happy. Lindsey worked on her schoolwork, and handed stuff up the ladder to me. The weather was glorious, so I opened all the windows to let the house air out and put all the bed linens in the wash. Olivia worked on trimming the hedges in the front yard. Lindsey and I moved to the front yard to work and we got the front flower beds cleaned out, helped clean up the hedge clippings and washed the living room picture window while we were at it. We were all quite tired when we were done, but it made a huge improvement on the curb appeal as well as the first impression when walking into the sun porch.
Here's a before and after photo.
Tuesday was another beautiful day. Temperatures in the 80's, in November, is not the norm here, but we'll take it while we can. Olivia went to the farm midday. I spent the early part of my day on the phone with various places trying to get some things taken care of. Then it was laundry, deep cleaning the bathrooms and working in the rear flower beds a bit. Olivia went to the farm after lunch to work and get some riding time in. Lindsey worked on her lessons as usual. She really loves her sign language class, and is doing really well with it. Jiu-jitsu wrapped up the evening.
Wednesday morning we had heavy rains and cooler temperatures. I made the trek to pick up our Christmas ornaments at the pottery place. I also tried getting some Christmas shopping in, but found that several of the unique stores I'd planned to visit were no longer in business. Everyone worked on their lessons while I was gone and had settled in to watch HGTV when I returned. We had more torrential rain around 9pm with localized flooding again. No damage here this time, thank God.
Thursday we still had rain falling, but the rate had slowed drastically. I did grocery pick up while Lindsey worked on her lessons and Olivia worked on her German. In the afternoon Lindsey had to go for costume fitting for lantern tours, followed by a rehearsal. The museum is planning to have abbreviated tours this year...if things don't get shut down again. Social distancing and mask wearing will be required. After a quick dinner the kids were out the door to jiu-jitsu.
Friday morning Lindsey had an orthodontist appointment. She moved up to "power chains", which, to me, sounded a lot more formidable than they are. I had an appointment later in the morning and the kids finished up lessons while I was gone. By 10am everyone was done with school work for the week.
In case you missed it earlier in the week, I did a full post (with lots of photos) on our day trip to Paint Bank, Virginia.
Have a great weekend!
I bet it feels wonderful to have gotten so much done around the house!!
ReplyDeleteIt really was great to get so much done. Lots more to work on this coming week (job security, right?)
DeleteI am not a huge fan of painting either, but I think that will be seen as my theme during this pandemic. I sure have done a lot of it. Anyway, it looks great. We have had some store close around here too. It is sad. I am trying to only buy gifts locally and mostly from small businesses this year.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Dawn
I thought about all of your painting projects when I was working, and was glad it was you and not me!
