Weekly Wrap Up - Spring Break-Ish

The weekend was pretty nice here as far as weather.  Saturday was Olivia's usual flurry of job rotations.  I still ride along (or drive) to the 530am shift, and then she's on her own the rest of the day.  I worked on house work and made dessert for our Easter dinner.  We colored Easter eggs and had a relaxing evening at home.  We found that if you color brown eggs, you get really deep, rich colored eggs.

Sunday we did the early shift at the farm, and then headed to the early service at church.  Once we were home, I began preparing food for our Easter dinner.  We had Tom's parents, my brother and another family member over for dinner at 4pm.  The food was delicious and it was a meal with all 8 of us piled around the dining room table.  I somehow forgot to take photos of anyone or anything.

Monday saw us back at the farm for the early morning shift.  Lindsey had the day off from babysitting and had her school work done really early, so I took her for the first official driving lesson.  First off, she's wired totally different than her sister.  Olivia is always calm, quiet and reserved even under stress.  Lindsey is...NOT those things, ever. She's very animated and verbose, and her screams, squeals and commentary were a bit disconcerting to the driving instructor (me).  Olivia went to her afternoon shift at the farm, and we worked on laundry.  I shared some spring make over info in a post entitled Spring Spruce Up, be sure to check that out. We didn't do much in the evening.

Tuesday morning was a little busy (shocker).  I had an 8:30am appointment to get the tires on the Jeep looked at.  They of course need replacing, so tires were ordered and we'll go back Thursday to get those put on.  At 10am Olivia and I took the dog to get his rabies booster shot.  He has major travel anxiety, so it's a two person job to get him the vehicle, keep him as calm as possible, and get him back into the car.  He sleeps for quite a while once he returns home, it's just too much for him.  My in-laws showed up sometime while I was at the first appointment and stayed until around 11am visiting.  Lindsey was on-call for babysitting (because the mom is a nurse and was also on call), so she didn't have to go to work until 9am, and was home by about 5pm.    Olivia and I went truck shopping and may have found a strong contender.  Jiu-jitsu wrapped up the evening.

Wednesday onward started the "spring break-ish".  The 2nd family that Lindsey sits for was on break, so that meant she was on break.   Olivia worked the morning shift at farm #2, then the afternoon at farm #3.  Lindsey finished up her science for the year.  We're slowing getting the subjects completed.  Church wrapped up the evening.

Thursday morning Lindsey was up super early to get her final exam in world history finished.  This was her least favorite subject for the year.  She was happy to wrap this one up, and ended the year with a strong B average. Tom took the Jeep to get new tires put on it, and it rides so smoothly now!

We went to Cracker Barrel around 9am to meet out of state relatives for breakfast.  There were 8 of us all together, but they "can only seat 6 at a table due to covid-19 restrictions."  What?  We're all family, we're all together, but they wouldn't budge.  We ended up sitting 4 and 4 and just talking across the aisle to each other (I'm sure that was oh-so-much less likely to spread germs).  The fact that the salt & pepper shakers on the table had been handled by everyone in the free world, and had dried/crusted on mashed potatoes stuck to the top of the shaker wasn't a health risk at all. These are the kinds of ridiculous things that make me want to scream.  We spent the morning/early afternoon hanging out with our guests.  I did grocery shopping in the evening, the girls went to jiu-jitsu and then we all reconvened back at our house for coffee and conversation into the late hours.

Friday morning Olivia went to work at the farm.  Two of her horses have been in quarantine, and she's been pretty concerned for them, but was happy to see them back to normal and able to be reintroduced to the herd.  We spent most of the day with our visiting relatives, had lunch and went to one of the caverns in the area.  It was a good day, but we were all tired by the end.  I didn't take photos, again...but ya'll I just hate to take pictures of masked people doing stuff.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I feel the same way about these regulations that just don't seem to make any sense! We were asked to wear masks outside for a tour of the gardens even though we were only 5 people altogether (including our guide)... like we couldn't have spread out??! Then the 4 of us went and all sat on the same blanket to eat lunch in the park (but that was OK since we were eating?). I just don't get it... Your colored eggs are beautiful! I never thought to color brown eggs before.
