I skipped last week's Wrap Up, I can only do so many "the kids went to work, the kids came home, school got done" posts a month. Grins. Basically, that's what this week was as well. I did meet my brother on Tuesday for lunch. That was a nice break from the monotony. This little guy adds a lot of joy during the week too.
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about weight loss and health and such things. I obviously have weight to lose, and I don't have any health issues that I'm aware of, but I see areas that need improvement.
A great deal of the areas I'm looking at would all benefit simply from losing weight. But, at my age, I'm not willing to starve, nor am I willing to become a gym rat and exercise hours a day. I sat down this week and wrote out a couple of areas that I either know need to improve, or I assume need improving.
My list is pretty simple:
Lose weight
Decrease joint pain/inflammation
Improve digestion/avoid diverticulitis flare up
Lower cholesterol (if it needs lowering)
Lower blood pressure (if it needs lowering)
Lower blood sugar (if it needs lowering)
Be more active
Based on the areas I want to improve on, I googled each one in this fashion "foods that lower/help with...." and then made a list under each bullet item. Basically, what I've determined is that if I eat oatmeal, nuts, dark leafy greens, berries, beans and apples and throw in some lean protein and olive oil, all of my concerns will go away.
I went out with that train of thought when I went shopping this week and bought oatmeal (not the instant kind) fresh fruits and veggies, and leafy greens. I figure if I focus on the foods I CAN eat, instead of focusing on the foods I can't eat I'll be more successful. I'll let you know how that all goes.
Have a great weekend!
I hope it goes well! I try to eat mostly fresh fruit, fresh veggies (with loads of dark leafy greens), lean proteins, and whole grains rather sparingly. So far it has helped me drop and keep off over 30 lbs but I too tend to hit a breaking point exercise wise and can only do so much and refuse to starve myself. If I'm hungry then I eat something but I am trying to reach for healthy things and not junk... not always an easy decision for sure but I figure it's a process and a definitely step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteGreat list. I lost 16 pounds on Trim Healthy Mama. It is a lifestyle more than a diet. I have loosened up a bit and did regain five pounds, but I am a normal weight now.
