Over the weekend, Olivia tested for her blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. There was a three-hour seminar prior to her test, followed by a great deal of rolling. I was concerned she'd be worn out before testing time, however it helped keep her nerves at bay. Normally the black belt will call out each item, Olivia however memorized the whole test and once he said go, she ran through the whole thing for 35 minutes. One thing about her, is she is VERY strong, and combined with her control she's pretty formidable. Her testing partner took quite a beating. I occasionally watched the black belts who were judging her test, they would whisper to each other while still watching her. When she was finished, she bowed and stood there waiting. She was so surprised when the one black belt said "That was fabulous. It was a pleasure to watch you test." She actually said, "Excuse me sir?" because she thought she'd misunderstood him.
Monday Lindsey was up early to work on school. She went to work from 8:30-1pm, and then had a dentist appointment at 3. Olivia went riding (she's training for her first horse show). I met my friend Yvette for coffee. It was good to see her out of the house and more like herself.
Tuesday Lindsey worked from7:45-4:30. After she got off work, she bought her first car, with her own cash. She's so excited! Now we have to work on moving from her learner's permit to her regular driver's license. She's old enough, but with her work schedule we just haven't been getting the hours in. Now that the days are getting longer, and having her own car, I'm sure she'll be more anxious to get out and drive.
Wow! What a week. That is great about the jujitsu grading and what a compliment. Congrats to lindsay on her new car! Wishing her luck on getting her hours in. We haven't been doing so well with that either. I'm pretty sure if we added all of my sons driving time it's only been 2 hours tops.
ReplyDeleteWith the soaring gas prices, I can't guarantee she'll be getting her hours in anytime soon either. It jumped 60cent a gallon in 72 hours here.
DeleteWhat a nice compliment for Olivia. How exciting to get your first car.
