Weekly Wrap Up - What a Week

I didn't get to do a Weekly Wrap Up last week (1/28/22) as planned.  Around noon I received a text from my friend Yvette that she had to call 911 for her husband, and I instantly left and headed to her home and spent the next 7 hours sitting in the ER parking lot with her, because even she wasn't allowed in for the longest time.  I'm sorry folks, but this whole not letting people in with a family member in a catastrophic medical crisis (or any medical situation) is wrong and unethical and some other choice words that I'd love to express to the people who've made up these absurd rules.   Without giving personal information, I'll ask that if you are a person who knows how to pray, please pray for Billy.

While I was waiting to pick Yvette up ("visiting hours" end at 7pm, even if you still have no idea what's going on with your person in the ER...) our latest winter storm moved in.  The ride home was disconcerting at best.  This is the first time I've had to use the 4X4 since we bought this vehicle, and I was certainly glad to have it.

The weekend was spent helping Olivia get to and from work (she does not have 4X4) in the ice and snow and single digit temperatures.  I also helped Yvette with things and then tending to Lindsey who suddenly woke up Sunday with an upset stomach out of the blue.

Monday was a standard day.  Olivia was off work, and Lindsey ended up being off because she was still not feeling well.  Lindsey did get all of her schoolwork done before retiring to the sofa to nurse some ginger ale.

Tuesday was Olivia's day off and Lindsey was still off work. Lindsey did get her lessons done (homeschoolers - sick days just aren't the same).  I spent the day at the hospital (actually inside the hospital) with Yvette and Billy.  While I was there, I received an alarm that the college where Olivia worked this past year had an active shooter on campus.  Two campus security officers were killed in the line of duty.  Please pray for the families of those officers, and the college community.

Wednesday both girls were back to work, things were pretty normal except for Billy still needing miraculous intervention.  Work and school for both kids went well.

Thursday morning, I got up early and went to take paperwork by the ballet studio (I still work there) before dropping Lindsey off.  When I got there, we saw the adjacent building engulfed in flames and firemen climbing into our building through the windows.  I called the owner, and of course when calling someone at 7am, her first question was "Is everything ok"....no, it wasn't.  Thankfully the firewall did its job, and the fire didn't get into our building, but we have extensive smoke and water damage.  Please pray for the owners of the flower shop as it may be a total loss.  (The ballet studio is the building to the left of the florist shop in the photo below.)

Friday (today) Olivia's working, and Lindsey has the baby here.  I've been working on lesson plans for the next little bit and we're starting to see the end of some subjects looming.   The temperatures have climbed into the 50's and it's rained for a few days, so the snow is finally starting to melt. The girls are supposed to go to volleyball tonight.

I hope you've had a more low-key week in your neck of the woods.  Here's hoping for a good weekend!

  1. OH my goodness; you have had quite the upheaval this week!! So glad your friend Yvette had you to lean on and I totally agree that is is NUTS & WRONG that family can not go into the hospital with sick family. Everyone needs someone with them to hear what is being said, to ask the questions one usually can not think of it in the moment, and to lean on (most of that works both ways as waiting without knowing is torture too). So glad the dance studio is still standing but smoke and water damage can be pretty awful to deal with too. My heart goes out to that poor florist as well as those security guards and their families.

  2. Yikes. Praying for your friend's husband. That fire looks horrible. Ours was a bit more low key, but did involve a hospitalization and over a 1000 miles of travel. That is awful about visiting in the hospital. One person was allowed to stay 24/7 with Tim and he is an adult. So glad it is different in NC.
    Blessings, Dawn
